Title: Grand Villa Backup Light Switch
Post by: Flopsie on May 05, 2017, 07:05:58 pm
So, I have my new to me 1986 OREG, and rewiring is going well. I have all the lights working now with the exception of the backup light.  the hold up there is that I have no Idea where the backup light switch is.  I have the v-814 chassis and the Ford C6 transmission, so its not quite like the big diesel GVs. What I have found is there is a switch on the gear selector attached to the mechanism with a white plastic bar. It has several wires, all snipped, and I haven't been able to tell that any switch on it closes when i shift to reverse. Also there are 2 switches or sensors or something on the end of the cable back at the transmission, which i have no idea what they do either, but neither seem to close in reverse. I'm just guessing one of these turns on the light and could be broken, or there is another place I have no Idea about.

Any Ideas?

Check C6 parts book or Orielly's page for the BU switch.  It may be trans mounted.

That switch on the shifter with the snipped wires is the back up light switch.

I looked at the transmission, because some of my old fords had it there.  I wouldn't be surprised if that switch on the selector was it, and its just broken.  I'm just gonna have to pull that and see what the part number is,

Thanks!

You could try putting those 2 wires together to see if the backup lights work. If I remember correct seems like that switch was like a double switch and one half did the neutral start and the other part did the backup lights.

The wiring here was such a mess that I had to rewire all the lights from scratch, so just touching wires together hasn't really been an option. Its good to know those extras on there might be the neutral safety though.

I finally got annoyed and took the shift selector assembly apart. The reason I couldn't figure out the wires was that neither switch worked at all. Then I went looking on the internet for a replacement, since there were not numbers on it. there's a really similar GM one that's 150 dollars because they are all nos. and then saw a number on the little sticker on the assembly. It's Quadrastat T307, 20.00 on Ebay.  Another puzzle solved.
Thanks for the advice!
