Delo 15w40 oil used to be CJ rated and a newer CK rating is now out, AND Costco has it on sale for most of this month for $10 / gallon.
Official name is Chevron Delo 400 SDE 15W40 CK-4
FYI, for older engines (like 99% of us own) both Cummins and Caterpillar recommend:
New designation diesel oil recommendation: CK4 15-40. NOT FA4.
No, I have not researched what years the new FA4 is recommended for.
As I understand it oils are backwards engineered. Meaning as new classifications are introduced the oil still covers all older specs.
FA-4 has limited backward compatability. It is thinner and engineered for better fuel economy.
CK-4 is what most of us will continue using!
What Chevron says: Delo 400 SDE SAE 15W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oil (http://www.deloperformance.com/en-us/products/Delo400SDESAE15W40.html)
Pretty sure that SAE 15W40 standard must meet certain laboratory requirements. Not sure how any oil with a 15W40 rating could be "thinner"? There may be some improvements that reduce friction but a thinner oil would probably have a different SAE rating like 10W30, etc.

Steve,
No FA-4 oils are 15w-40, as far as I am aware.
The oil the OP posted is the CK-4, which is what should be used. No matter what the weight is, FA-4 is only for 2017+ engines that specifically call for it, its weight, and its additive pack. Even if your engine specs a thinner oil, like 10w-30 that kubota specs, you can get the thinner 10w-30 in a CK-4 spec for that older kubota engine, rather than using the non recommended FA-4 10w-30.
Thought I would throw this in,just ordered a Futomo drain valve for my 8.3 Cummins,I checked on my Quickserve site and got
the thread size.
From Delo's website:
On December 1, 2016, two new categories of oil standards were licensed: API CK-4 and FA-4.
Both deliver superior performance over current oils. The CK-4 will protect new and older engine models.
And, the FA-4 was designed to provide optimized fuel economy for 2017 engines that are designed to take advantage of these improvements.
So, unless you have an engine with a build year of 2017, you will use the CK-4 oil.
The main reason for the original post was to let others know Costco has Delo on sale for $10 /gal.
I've used these valves for all my diesels - great convenience. Just bought 6 gallons at Costco.
Found the best price on Amazon.
