When in Nac who would you take your coach to to troubleshoot inverter/converter/battery issues?
1. FT
2. MOT
3. Bernd
4. ?????
Thanks.
My first thought is Clyde and Aubrey Lee who was electrical long time expert at FOT and went to MOT.
May be others but where I would start, see if they send me elsewhere
Mike
Would start with number 4,DA FORUM.
Agree with john 44 on this one. Lots of good no nonesense electrical members on this Forum. Scott and carol have actually not mentioned what the problem is/could be but I know they have had battery issues for a while as they have posted about it.
The last owner of their coach I think is also a member, so he may have some ideas. 8) I am sure they have talked .

Think we need more info on the problem, let's beat the NAC gurus.
John, there are no NAC Guru's as the only difference between them and us is "they get paid $120 and hour and we get satisfaction of helping"

Thanks guys for your interest and answers.
Carol and I are currently fine. However a friend lost power to his coach and house batteries are flat. Charger does not seem to be able to charge the batteries. I do not recall all of the other details. He would like to contact someone in Nac that can trouble shoot his issues with a high level of confidence that the problem can be solved without replacing lots of parts. He is hoping he won't have to replace 3 8a8d batteries not to mention his Prosine.
Thanks again, :D
Your friend wishes are nice. Reality probably will be different
Any competent RV electrical tech should be able to help your friend.
First check the obvious, that the Prosine is getting AC power and connected to the batteries. If so, try resetting the Prosine. See if it works now.
If not,
Then test the batteries. Disconnect them and measure the voltages to see if all are acting the same way. Put them on a known good charger overnight, disconnect, then load test them.
Once you have known good (as tested) batteries, let the Prosine try charging them again while monitoring voltage and current.
I don't think he is wishing - just wants to know - even in Nac it can be difficult to find competence.
Who is that "Go To" guy in Nac?
Would do reply number 8.
Replies 2, 3 and 8. If he's around, contact Gary Omel if this is one of the original Xantrex Prosine 2.5K units. He knows a lot about them
(BTW, they are not repairable if that's what the issue is)
Now - what does the Prosine control readout show - any faults? What lights are lit? On the standard panel there is a button (IIRC) to turn the charging side on and off and a charging status indicator Light next to it. Does it say it's charging? If he has the option ACS panel instead, what does it say?
The Prosine manual is in the Media section if he needs it - it explains how to read the fault codes on the standard panel. http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?action=media;sa=album;in=461
Going further, you said he lost power. Has power come back on? If so, can he confirm that the transfer switch is passing 120V to the rest of the coach? If not, is he on generator and is that power getting through the transfer switch? Obviously he needs some source of 120V to charge the batteries.

Replace it!! Its a matter of time before its worn out anyways.. If they have the money, its pretty straight forward and a beeter system all around. I removed and replaced mine in about 2hrs by myself and I have a bad back and neck and knee's. Color monitor is kinda cool also
Victron MultiPlus 12 Volt / 3000 VA / 120 Amp Pure Sine Wave Inverter/Charger (https://baymarinesupply.com/chargers-inverters/victron/victron-multiplus-12-volt-3000-va-120-amp-pure-sine-wave-inverter-charger.html)
Like a lot of others here I finally had a magnum sw2812 installed and then a 500 amp combiner and a xantrex link pro gauge replacing the heart freedom 25 as its contactors had corroded a bit lowering the max bulk charge rate to around 60 amps. New unit is around 110 amp if at 60-70% SOC.
Seamless, well thought out panel.
Also replaced the red/green lights in the powerwatch meter
Mounted the magnum to the forward side of the bulkhead adjoining the battery compartment.
Four foot cabling.
Like the combiner a lot. Both batteries stay in mid 13's all the time on alternator or charger.
Batteries wont charge - here is a possibility:
If batteries are totally flat ()<10 volt), most battery chargers will shut off on overload.
Use a very small (1 amp) trickle charger for a couple hours, then your battery charger will charge them.
His batteries are OEM 2003 and one of them is cracked and leaking by the terminal so he will be replacing all 3 house batteries. Not sure what route he will follow but has talked to the battery shop in Nac and will be moving forward. He will then verify proper operation of his Prosine 2.0
Thanks all for your interest and responses. ;D
Out of curiosity,where is he?
Nac.
If I were he, I'd consider the batteries as due, or past due for replacement after 14 yrs...even with the best of care. The Prosine 2.0 is repairable, in certain instances. The problem I've run into is it cost $5-600 for a repair, you package and ship the thing $35, they check it out, then let you know if it's repairable, or not, if not, you pay another $35 to have it shipped back, or not. $600 gets you a pretty good Chinese inverter that is a good replacement for the Prosine.
According to a tech at Xantrex the Prosine 2.0 is repairable at a rate of about 2 to 3 out of 10. We spoke with them a few years ago when our 2.0 died. The tech said we could send ours in and they would troubleshoot and repair if repairable. He suggested we take that $$$ and put it towards a new model.
Kinda drifted off of the topic - :)
