Title: grease recommendations
Post by: Sven and Kristi on June 03, 2017, 05:30:10 pm
Has anyone found a chassis and drive line grease that meets the requirements of our RVs?  Lithium 12 stearate....with moly is recommended, but I have not been able to find this in the usual auto parts stores.  I've seen the Lithium 12 stearate, but no mention of moly.  I've seen "moly fortified lithium", but nothing that matches the full description in the manual.  Also, clay based grease can't be found at all.  If you are using something else, how does that meet the requirement?
Thanks for any help.

Sven, try Finditparts.com. Also do a "search" for clay based grease, lots of info.
There is synthetics that are compatible now also

It's been a while now, but last time I bought clay-based grease it was from MOT.  A Mobil product IIRC and not particularly expensive.  You might give the MOT parts folks a call.

Any NLGI grade 1 for the Meritor Brakes and 2 for the chassis is required.  Meritor recommended clay based grade 1 grease for the Meritor brakes.  Many synthetics are available that comply to Grade 1 and 2.  I prefer the clay based Grade ! for the brakes and any synthetic grease that complies with the Grade 2 specs for the chassis.  Lots of conversation on this topic.  Search Meritor brakes.

2   265-295               "normal" grease   peanut butter"

Have fun.  :)

BTW - I believe they are available from Amazon.

I used to always use Lucas Red & Tacky which is NLGI #2 but have changed to Lucas X-TRA Heavy Duty Grease as it seems to have less oil separation.

Here's some good reading;  Schaeffer Oil | Proper Storage and Use of Grease to Avoid Excessive Oil... (http://www.schaefferoilreps.com/12-12-11-greasehandling.html)
