Someone on the forum asked me for info about the original heater core dimensions on our 1999 U270. In an effort to spare others the aggravation I experienced when I got the wrong one from Foretravel and then was offered the one I ended up installing which required way to much re-engineering time to make it fit comfortably in the HVAC assembly... if you want to read about my experiences and see what I did to make it fit, here is the thread;

Attached is an annotated picture of the original 99' U270 Heater Core which hopefully shows the relevant information. Member MAZ found a replacement which looks to be an easier install than the one I got from Foretravel. I was quoted a price of over $325 to re-core the failed original one from a local radiator shop that does a lot of big truck radiators. In retrospect, I would have been likely better off to swallow that cost than go through what I did to fit the 2nd unit I got from Foretravel. Of course, when I bought the second one from Foretravel for about $170, I had hopes that it would fit without too much work which would have made it seem like a bargain compared to a re-core. Live and learn...

Thanks Don for all the info. I think I might get mine repaired at Hubbards Radiator in Jacksonville. I have had work done there before and at a very reasonable cost. If that does not work I will try the one I found here

Just wanted to let you know my experience with this.
I read through Dons thread about replacing the core and the mods he had to do to make it fit. I was ready to make the same modifications to my unit as he did. I had the heater core out with me when I went into the parts department at FOT to see about getting a new one. The only one they had was the same one Don got from them. While I was there, I stopped to talk to Alton in the FOT shop about something else and get his take on installing the heater core. He said to take the heater core to Durham radiator service in Lufkin, TX. Thats who they use. I also asked him how to repair the drip collection pan inside the box underneath the heater and A/C core(FYI, radiator coolant degrades the plastic parts inside the box to the point that they fall apart) . He said, dont bother repairing it take it down the street to the sheet metal shop and have them duplicate it in metal. when I pulled the box out, the rear plastic housing was also damaged from the coolant and would not seal against the fresh air intake so I had that made in metal as well. While in there, I replaced the speed control switch and the blower. I also put a coat of paint on it because radiator coolant also removes the galvanizing.
The repair for the radiator was about $85. Durham said that if he couldn't repair it he would re-core it but the repair did the trick.
