Title: New Windshield U320
Post by: Johnstons on June 21, 2017, 11:21:11 am
Several years ago the drivers side windshield cracked from the bottom up while bouncing down I-49 in Louisiana.  We have now replaced the passenger side that appeared to crack while sitting on a level pad with the HWH doing its job.  The crack started at the top of the windshield this time.

I called the FMCA glass folks who told me they only worked with insurance companies.  I told them I was an agent and wasn't going to file a claim because it wouldn't be much over my deductible.  She was adamant she couldn't help me.  I waited a few days and called the FMCA member services line and they said they would do some training with their glass vendor.

The windshield cost $364.29, freight to Oklahoma $200 and crating $85.  My local body shop installed it for $227.24 making the total $876.53.  I didn't think that was bad.  The odd thing is that the drivers side Guardian glass installed by FOT in 2012 doesn't have the Foretravel logo on it and the new one from FMCA does have the logo.

We have Safco insurance. 100% glass coverage (no deductible) I had a 12" crack appear from a small rock chip close to the edge in the P/S windshield. Had Novus repair it for $59.00, just to stop it I talked to my agent, Safco will replace both windshields no hassle, because the drive side has a star that was previously repaired. All I have to do is tell them it bothers me, which it does..
As a FT tech, I replace at least 50 windshields (Alaska trips). Going to wait till I get the big one, then turn in a claim for both, and have them done.

Did both mine last year to match the tint bands and no pits.  Less my deductible insurance covered the cracked passenger windshield and the original drivers side to match.

Different drive to look through new windshields.  Like sitting outside.
