DW and I are discussing merits of a dedicated RV GPS as opposed to using a smart phone with RV app.
Which way have you gone, and why?
We are using a Garmin RV 770 NA LMT-S and like it very much...DW uses the Garmin GLO along with her ipad.

Yes, lots of info out there. Like to add to make sure your GLO has the latest firmware and don't let it sit in the sun up on the dash while operating as it's prone to shut down from overheating.
Not a bad subject as the world of GPS navigation hardware and software is changing rapidly today. All the new iPads finally have GPS/Glonass receivers built in now. Newbies should consider the Samsung Galaxy Tab S or S2. Outstanding!

Pierce,
I was going to make a bracket for my existing Samsung tab and go from there, using the larger screen to navigate by.
DW is concerned about not having cell service when we need to navigate.

Moby,
I use the Tab S to navigate all over the world along with the iPhone 6S and all WITHOUT an internet connection or cell service. A totally free and excellent app called Here (togo) works on Samsung (or other Androids) and iPads. Don't need a connection once you originally download the app along with the maps. You can get free maps of just about any place in the world. Check the reviews. iOS and Android downloads: HERE WeGo App (https://here.com/en/products-services/consumer-app/here-wego-app) No trucks or RV specific maps.
RAM makes excellent mounts that will fit both iPads and Tab S, S2, S3. You will need the mount, ball, arm, ball. They provide as vibration free mount as is available. Here is the mount: Amazon.com: Ram Mount Tab-Tite Universal Clamping Cradle for 10-Inch Screen... (https://www.amazon.com/Tab-Tite-Universal-Clamping-Including-RAMHOLTAB8U/dp/B0098QTFTO/ref=pd_sbs_263_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0098QTFTO&pd_rd_r=1HSP0Y4R0JAV99PS67BP&pd_rd_w=5Au42&pd_rd_wg=3eZjX&psc=1&refRID=1HSP0Y4R0JAV99PS67BP)
You probably know this already but with the internal GPS turned on with any phone or tablet, the battery drain goes way up so the device should be plugged into a USB charging connection.

Honestly, I'm starting to wonder if I'm over thinking this and should go out for the ride.
Not my intent at all - I was trying to highlight the wealth of info the forum has available as well. Sometimes a good point was made in the past that might be of interest, and it doesn't always reoccur in new discussion.
Not really taken that way at all.
As soon as I saw your suggestions, I said "doah"
Get ATT Mobley for $20.00 per month. You then have Internet almost all of the time and the tablet will be able to give you traffic updates.
x2 on RAM mounts. Excellent stuff, have used for years.
