Title: Redoing the chassis battery compartment connections
Post by: Don & Tys on July 05, 2017, 06:07:13 pm
I had a PM request to break this out to the tech talk section for those who might benefit... Happy to do it, though I have no time at the moment to add detail and discuss the other aspects of the multifaceted project that this is a part of. Maybe later tonight... I will post a few more pictures to hopefully provide more info.

Working on finishing a large project involving engine compartment insulation new, chassis battery/starter cables, Alt to battery smart charger, zero drop isolator, heavy duty boost switch replacement and other stuff... Anyway here is a picture of the chassis battery compartment make over. Moved battery tray 1.25" towards the rear so that the battery can come straight out, 2 bus bars, Victron shunt for chassis battery monitor (this is an experiment to see if a 500AMP shunt can stand up to starter motor current draw... not quite as bad as it sounds since the shunts can take 300% current for short durations and somewhat less for longer durations. Larger shunts up to 6000 or more AMPS are available. We shall see...), battery disconnect switch, and putting in a partition behind the dual mud flap to keep the area somewhat cleaner.

Edit: Also moved the primary fuel filter about 8" to the left (toward the rear of coach) to make servicing a bit less messy, as it will be easier to place a pan under to catch the drips...
