Title: Nimbus and Phenix coaches 2006-2008
Post by: kickerma52 on July 22, 2017, 09:52:03 pm
Any problems with these years?  Anything we should know since we are getting ready to buy our first Foretravel and these are possibles. We are moving up from LazyDaze.

2006 Nimbus is a rebadged (roughly) U295.  There are a couple of members who have them who hopefully will chime in

2007 started the true new Nimbus model.  They were originally offered with the retarder optional rather than standard - probably not the best idea especially since I don't think they put any engine/exhaust braking in to replace it.

There are some things to watch on these years (2007-2008 or 9):

Generator size
I have the opportunity to purchase a 2007 Nimbus 42ft (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=22474.msg171397#msg171397)

Delamination (can be a $35K repair)
Body Integrity (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=29772.0)
342 nimbus 07 delamination (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=22530.msg172047#msg172047)
Bladder Repair with Delamination Prevention (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=29068.msg244967#msg244967)

Lack of dash A/C part availability
FT excess parts inventory (split from Motorcade Premium Membership) (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=23557.msg183392#msg183392)

As an owner of a 2007 Nimbus, stay away from this year model. There are many many issues and most issues were serious. You can pm me for more details if you wish.

I currently own a 2006 Nimbus. The only issue I am aware of are delamination issues with the slides. I was told the adhesive used between the fiberglass skin and frame turned out to be water soluble in those years. So if water or moisture manages to migrate into that area it will cause delamination.

Slide bladders - I have replaced 2 of my 3 slide bladders. I suspect the rubber has a life span and will deteriorate over time like tires. Their life span depends on the environment and care they receive. The new ones have been redesigned and are thicker.

As with all Foretravels check the rear bulkhead for issues.

I also have a 8K Power tech generator that was a factory installation. It seemed to run everything fine. The engine says Catapiller but it is actually a Perkins engine. I have been told Perkins was a great engine and had been around a long time. They are not used anymore and are no longer made. After 840 hours a wrist pin worked itself loose and gouged a hole in a cylinder wall. Parts for Perkins engines are not available anymore. At leased engine blocks are not to be found. I replaced it with a new 8K Power tech generator with a Kabota engine.

The other things to check are fuel lines and airbags. These items are pretty much standard check items on all Foretravels also.

Dick, they had an issue with the slides and adhesives in 2001 too.  You think they would test it better before using it or figure out the composition and choose the proper one.  I can forgive it on first gen slides but not by 2006.
