Title: Removing Foretravel Magazine Rack
Post by: TulsaTrent on July 26, 2017, 11:19:04 am
I am removing what I can to install new flooring in my U295. It came (to me) with two magazine racks mounted low on the passenger side. I have removed all four (long) screws that attach the forward unit. Unfortunately, it appears to also have about three screws that come from the cherry wood cup holder that is just in front of it. There is no way my fat hand can fit down that hole. I can feel two screw heads in a metal bracket on the bottom of that cylinder, but there is no room to get a screwdriver under there.

Has anyone removed their front magazine rack? How did you do it?

Has anyone removed that tall cylindrical wooden cup holder/sliding cover switch? What is the secret to doing that?

When I reinstall the front magazine rack, I plan to mount it a little higher. This will make my height-challenged DW much happier.

Thanks for any and all replies,

Trent

I have had mine off several times all I remember is ihe 4 screws and you have to unplug the wires for the sliding floor

As I recall, when removing the tall cylindrical wooden cup holder in our '99, I removed the sliding cover switch and through that hole was able to get at one or more screws holding the cylinder in place.

Trent,

The cup holder and magazine rack should come out as one piece.  The trick is to take the step cover switch off the cup holder and there is a hid screw that you have to remove.  After you have this screw out and the 4 that are seen on the front of the magazine rack the hole thing should come out.  You have to go through this also when you have to work on that touch switch that controls the grab handle light.

Half round cup holder in our coach: Lid glued down, pry up.  Few bottom & side screws will then be visible.  We put top back on without glue and use inside half round for storage.  We also drilled hole through floor within the half round to run new step slide solenoid air shutoff wire up to new control switch mounted next OEM switch.

I did not have a picture when I started this thread. I do now, and am including it for posterity.

Thanks for all feedback,

Trent when you remove the switch plate you will need to unplug the wires from the switch.  Take pictures and make a diagram of the connections.  In the switch hole on the side of the cup holder pedestal frame is a screw.
