Engine starts, runs few seconds & quits. When using hand pump, air hisses and bubbles go back to water separator. won't start again 'til next day /w same symptom. Can't do anything with partially legible numbers on pump. Finally staggered around and found Carter part #(M73104). Amazon has it for $60.00+ Carter pic looks same, max pressure 25psi, max flow 23 gpm. Thoughts anyone?

Possible fuel line leak?
Possible - Gonna order it and do more looking while waiting. I've owned this coach for a couple years and have always had a small drip on ground from first filter with the bowl - but have driven it quite a bit... will take care of the leak and try the old pump after cleanup. I'll holler back. I'm not smart enough to know why the air bubbles seem to go backwards while pushin" th
pump?

In case you do decide to change out the pump - link below to the replacement pump I bought 3 years ago. It has been working perfectly. I don't know that it would necessarily be any better than the one you found on Amazon. They are all made in China - even the ones sold by Cummins.
I also recommend you install studs to mount the pump (if you don't already have them). Makes installation much easier!

Thanks, Chuck. Looks like the 5.9 used the same pump as the 8.3. Mainly concerned about the max psi & gpm. Read thru the fuel post a couple days ago & thought I read that that's about what we need? Mine already has studs - but the nut backed them out.. Will use a bit of stickem.

I don't think I've ever seen any pressure and flow rate specs quoted for the mechanical lift pumps. I just assumed they would all pretty much be the same. The fuel pressure between the lift pump and the injection pump is controlled by the overflow valve. If you still have the original valve on your injection pump, then you will probably not see anywhere near 25psi, even with a new pump. Before I replaced my overflow valve, I was only getting 3psi at idle. Now, with the adjustable overflow valve, I get about 30psi right after a cold start, and about 25psi when the engine is at running temps. My old thread about the fuel system is linked below:
