Title: Roof antenna
Post by: Jimmyjnr on August 03, 2017, 02:13:34 pm
The roof antenna eventually broke into a mess of alloy legs and plastic today .
It appears that the plastic pivot points for the alloy legs snapped off .
If anyone has an old one laying in the garage, I would love to have it , failing that any easy upgrade advice.

Not sure if you have all the parts now that yours broke. Here is a DIY for installing the Jack antenna. Ours works better than the OEM.

And here is Winegard's latest antenna. Not so sure about "Bob" but the antenna looks unobtrusive and you can't forget to lower it. More expensive at $299.

He doesn't look like the Bob in the swimming pool, girls standing around commercial.

I agree with Pierce and went with the Jack. Works better than the old one. I still use the mast like the one pictured.

Had family over from U.K. In a rental Rv following us around northern CA .
Drop them at the airport tomorrow and I can get to all the jobs that have accumulated along with the stress !!
Will take another look at my existing antenna legs , currently the existing unit drops and settles in a u shaped bracket, where would the bat wing rest ??

If your antenna legs are intact, the King Jack will install in five minutes and settle into the same bracket. Check YouTube videos of the installation.

Will check the state of the alloy legs in morning and make a judgment.
Currently the antenna sits in a U shaped bracket when traveling, maybe need to adjust to accommodate the new head ??

Had family from U.K. Following us around in a rental Rv ,  the heat wave ruined or best plan and left us scrambling for CG on the coast .
Trying to keep 6 people happy and two rvs in a convoy has taken its toll .
Hopefully once I drop them at the airport then return the rental and Uber back to our Rv then find a CG , I plan the hit the whiskey hard and get to the ongoing jobs asap

Legs look to be on good shape , is the retro jack head a straight replacement?

Yes, two pins with curclips. Take up some needlenose pliers and a small adjustable to remove cable from old antenna.

Yes. Make sure the "V" end is to the rear, as that is the back end of the Jack antenna.

The pins attaching my alloy legs to the existing head have a crimped end , unlike the ones described in the king jack text which appear to be removable with a circlip to secure them
