Title: PULSES PER MILE FOR VDO SPEEDOMETER
Post by: Tim on August 03, 2017, 03:42:47 pm
Anyone know the correct PULSES PER MILE for VDO speedometer model 1 211 012 341 for my 1997 U270?

The calibration procedure says to enter the pulse value when setting up the instrument.

See attachments.

This is for a new speedometer I just purchased. The old one had the infamous disappearing LCD and read MPH inaccurately.

I used the distance calibration method. Using gps drove 1 mile, followed instructions reads accurately on mile marker checks.

I think when I replaced mine I set it up the same as the old one. I just looked in my paperwork and I can't find anywhere I wrote it down Sorry.

my notes say 42600 pulses for speedo.

We also tweaked the setting our Garmin GPS.
Driver drove, assistant did speedo calibration while moving.
Used a custom made speedo switch harness between dash power and speedo, so we could get into calibration mode while driving.

Also found these instructions:
Press & hold front button, then turn on ignition
Continue to hold button, display scrolls: Autocl, Pulse, Adjust
Let go when display shows Adjust
Adjust speedo needle to match another speedo or GPS mph speed
Press front button once  and the word UP will be displayed
Press front button twice in rapid succession and the word DOWN will be displayed
When UP or DOWN is showing, press the front button again and hold it in
If hold button for a short time , the pointer will move very slowly either up or down
Holding button longer makes the pointer mover faster
If no further adjustments are made within one minute, the speedometer will revert back to normal mode
When speedo resets and needle does full sweep, calibration is complete

Me too. Drove the car one mile and reproduced with the rig. Got it right on the money (luck). I didn't realize you had to calibrate it and wondered why 65mph registered as 5mph. Someone on the forum set me straight. Great to have a working speedo (especially when you don't have VMS).
