Title: Battery voltage
Post by: Roland Begin on August 04, 2017, 06:58:48 pm
Interesting problem and a bit confusing at least for me. My xantrex system control panel reads the house battery voltage half a volt lower then the actual voltage. I measured the battery voltage at the battery and the meter read 14.2 volts. The trimetric reads 14.2 volts. Voltage at the Xantrex inverter charger dc input terminals reads 14.2V. The Xantrex system control panel reads 13.7 volts. That condition is with the generator running the inverter shutoff and the charger turned on. Condition is the same with the generator shut off with no AC input and the inverter off. Why half a volt low on the system control.

I wouldn't be concerned except I don't believe that the charger is fully charging my batteries. I am in the process of installing to new AGMs and I want to make sure that they get fully charged.

As long as the reading at the battery is correct, I would not be too concerned.

May bounce the "why is voltage different on the control panel" question by Xantrex.  OR, if you are parked near someone else with the same panel, ask to borrow theirs for 2 minutes.

If you confirm the panel is defective and want to replace it, might post that here in the Forum, as many have upgraded their inverter/charger and may have an old panel available.

I think you are okay. Voltage at the battery when charging seems to be correct.  Check the charge voltage required for the new batteries though.  The battery voltage should be less after an hour or so of not being charged.
