The plan is to be there , but have not figured out just yet to make a bird house out of a tee shirt . Maybe Mike L. has a plan ?? ??? ??? ??? Brad Metzger
I plan to be there next year, probably during the RV tent show that runs Jan 20-28.
Brad, Tom:
You guys are posting on LAST year's Q thread. We need to start a new 2018 Quartzsite thread if we're gonna start chatting about it.
Split and done - these are now in their own 2018 thread ;D through the "magic" of the Forum!
I am going to try and make it too next year.
Are the dates the same as last year?
Most try to be there for the RV tent show, which runs January 20-28 next year.
We plan on being at the Lemon Rally in January. Also plan another sojourn to Puerto Penasco Mexico after the Big Show.
Roland
OK... So, what are the dates of the Lemon Rally and... do they coincide with the RV Tent Show? Or... do we just need to figure on a 2-4 week stay?
This looks like a lot of fun!
It is no longer an organized rally, people come and go as they please. The majority flock there around the time of the RV tent show, plus or minus a week or so. Arrive early for a prime site.
Tom and Diane Lang, newlyweds 7/15/17
Look forward to meeting you, congradulations
Yup but this time earlier than last. We used to arrive around the 15th with other groups but had a late arrival last time.

What are the 2018 dates?? Where on map is N3334.965W11413.874. ??
I would aim for January 20-28. From the center of Q, south on 95 to La Paz Valler Rd, turn right. Go past the dip in the road to the yellow star on my map. Turn right then angle left on the leftmost dirt track to the second star. That where it's at.
And for those who get to Quartzsite, just head south on 95 for 6.0 miles and make a right on La Paz Road. Go about half a mile just a couple of hundred feet past the dip where the bushes are. Easy to miss or go up the right hand fork.

We might come up next year from Ajo. I remember advice given about that gathering; "don't play cards with those people!"
....if you are into dry camping, it's Great!.....otherwise, there are boo-coos of RV Parks, in and around town.......then, we just go to the desert and visit 🙂
P.s. You might want to put a deposit with a RV park to Guarantee a site - for Tent Week....if you are thinking full hook-ups.
That's a must. Quail Run is booked out one year in advance.
Dan,
7 miles south of Hwy 10 on Hwy 95. Turn west and follow the dirt road through several dips for about 1/5th of a mile then turn right. During the big tent time, you should be able to see other Foretravels already parked there.

Will be 2020 for us.....wife won't retire until the middle of 2019...bummed
Barb and I plan to see what all Quartzite is all about this year. I have read the posts on prior years.
Hopefully no rain this year.
As do I
AMEN to that, Brother! Last year (IMHO) was too wet and too cold...
I musta been having too much fun remember it being cool (campfires kept us warm) but don't remember much rain?
Roland
Other than the RV show, what is the reason for Q being in January? It's only a matter of time until some really bad weather plagues the get together. March would be so much nicer with longer days with more solar, warmer temps, less chance of bad weather and a safer drive for those coming from winter states.
We go to Mexico right afterwards and while the weather is passable, the water is still cold. December/January are the coldest months for both Q and Mexico.
Attached is the historical weather for Quartzsite. March would be about 10 degrees warmer for the low and high temps. Less chance of rain. As we have seen, global climate change brings more uncertainty to any date.
Pierce
Weather is only part of it.
Snowbirds start flocking there in November but the mass migration starts after Christmas. They fly north or elsewhere in March.
That is also the timespan for shows and swap meets. The Pow Wow rock show put Q on the map, and runs the last weekend of the RV show. And there are a number of other shows, spanning various time frames.
And finally, this is the time originally chosen by the Lemons for their rally, and our FT get together is an offshoot or continuation of that.
But in actual fact, this FT get together is not organized. We come and go. But if you choose to join us in the time of the RV show, you will fine more of us there than at other times.
We plan to go to Quartzite this year. Hope to meet you there.
It's going to be difficult for me this year but not out of the question, as I unretired and went back to work as a factory rep. If I do make it I will catch the tail end because I will be working the Tampa Super Show, and will have to beat feet it for Q on the 21st or 22nd.
There's a chance we might make it. What's cell service like there?
Cell service is good. If you don't want to talk to someone, tell them your so far out in the desert that service is bad.
Don't stress over missing the RV show sweet spot. Many will stay on.
Jean and I plan to make it this January, but are confused about something. Most of the time, everyone is talking about dry-camping at the secret location. I find it hard to believe that that many DWs want to dry camp for 2-4 weeks. Where are they staying and how to they mingle with you dry-campers, especially at potty time?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Thanks,
Trent
We stay at Quail Run RV Park just north of town the month of January.
Our coaches have large tanks, and most of us cal go a week before finding a dump and fill station. And they do exist in Q, along with honey wagons.
I would expect Quail Run to be full for January, but there are other parks in town.
We hope you can make it Rick Barna see you, Barry & Cindy
We where in Q last year for almost 6 weeks last year in Jan-Feb. We are planing on making it again next year.
Leslie and I are planning on being in Q again in 2018, probably around show time. Had fun meeting folks last year. We're making a run to Louisiana for some Zydeco dancing over Christmas, Q will be on the way back. I see a trip to Nac in my future.
Roland we might try to join you to Port Pen.
See you all on the road. Cheers Ric 8)
Margie and I plan to make it again this year ... should be there for about 2 weeks around RV show time.
Don & Tys will make it this year around the time of the show... We will probably stay at least a week, maybe more depending on weather etc. Looking forward to renewing friendships and meeting new people!
Don & Tys
Jan and I are planning to be there in 2018. Really looking forward to it.
I'll be there for this year as well. Looking forward to MUCH better weather than last year! Look forward to seeing everyone from last year and more. Roland had some great bonfires! As a bonus, I'll be heading to Puerto Penasco afterward! Loved the place last year. I'll also be sporting my new paint (I don't look so much like a vagabond)!
Just as a side thought, I would like to see some organized activities this year. I have a couple ideas:
Best Lemonade contest (to honor Kenny Lemon b^.^d )
Pot Luck night (or a couple nights)
A clinic or two (solar, maintenance, air systems, etc :help: )
Open House (tours of some rigs - show off your coachbuck investments  )
Karaoke night (I have a full karaoke setup :headwall: )
Just want to build a little on the our gathering of like-minded well-intended fun-loving Foretravelers.
Thoughts?
Is there a dunce corner for us that have to use the generator to charge the batteries?
Many run gen. We have lots of solar, but we run our gen every evening from about 5-9pm and in morning until about 9am.
Well Chuck, it's an open forum so plan away and if anyone wants to join in just have to pass the word around. I think it the last few years it's been great. I was approached this year from Paul and he would like to do a work shop on his APR system.
It's a big desert some run generators some don't. We have solar but I run my generator, 3000 Honda, when I need.
Roland
Looks great! People are gonna think you traded your old coach for a 2003 model GV! ^.^d
Current plans for us are to arrive on the 19th, stay about a week, hit lostbagofdonuts for some drugs, maybe Organ Pipe NP then over to Tuscon for Feb, Mar.
We've done spur of the moment pot-luck dinners, Karaoke, concerts, and 4-wheel drives in the desert. Tom Lang brought Japanese lanterns to release around the fire and Roland had his way cool drone year before last (in for repair last year I think). Somebody always has a project going that we pitch in on (or at least give opinions on). Everyone hits the Big Tent at least once. Open house happens right after you say Hi I'm so and so to your neighbor or new arrival.
This will be my 5th time at Q. Last year was the worst weather out of the 4 times we've been there and it was still a blast. The weather did cause us to bail out a day or 2 early though. Hoping for better weather 2018.
Q is what you make it.
see ya
ken
I will be there as well during the big tent days
Chuck ... paint looks great, did you have that done in Mexico.
I got the red (same color as my Jeep) and took off the grill decals and had that painted too. Went down to "Twig's Hideout" down in Puerto Penasco. I headed on down a lot later than everyone else due to previous engagements, but stayed long enough to see Peter and Melissa and give them a tour of the right places. Also had my front seats, dash, and valences recovered.
6 Months later, I'm still happy I got it all done.
Below is Falcor and 'Ol Red on the road, the second picture shows off the painted on decals (I was in Sturgis and wanted to show off my "Hog")
"Current plans for us are to arrive on the 19th, stay about a week, hit lostbagofdonuts for some drugs, maybe Organ Pipe NP then over to Tuscon for Feb, Mar."
It's "Al's Donuts"......or did you miss Tony Pasquale?
Diane and I plan to be there for the big tent week, perhaps longer. And I plan to bring Chinese wishing lanterns, I overbought two years ago and still have more than enough.
Here's the Quartzsite show calendar — so far Copied from the RV travel.com web page.

With Labor Day behind us, the snowbirds are beginning to shiver in their skivvies and plan for their winter travels. While this is not a complete list, already many of the big Quartzsite happenings are posting up their dates. Here's a partial calendar of activities – and remember, if you're a boondocker, September 15 marked the opening of the winter season on Bureau of Land Management Long Term.
Why not make your own plans to get away from the cold country – before you get snowed in?

We're planning on being there this year. How do you keep warm with an
Acua-Hot in the desert?? Just thinking ahead
Turn it on!🤗
Turn aquahot on and set thermostat at desired temperatures. Works the same in the desert as anywhere else.
Run it on diesel, keep an eye on battery level. If no solar, run generator in the morning to recharge batteries. Probably a 2nd run before bed time (or reasonable quiet hours for nearby campers).
Ops. Sorry, thought I was doing a good thing. Why the heck would rv travel.com post the dates from last year. Maybe the general time line is close.

Are there any Foretravlers or Forum members in Quartzite now. And is much going on now ? We are currently in Phoenix but are headed back to the PNW for some business and the holidays. And then headed south till March.
I am in PHX at PIR for NASCAR and heading back to PNW Tuesday or late Monday
Maybe, just maybe!! Hoping to be there.
Last year we where in Yuma in November and rode up to Quartsite. Not much going on only thing open was the grocery store and gas station at the corner. A few folks camping here and there. It doesn't get going the December.
I'll be watching it, wave as the drone goes over. If you're in the infield, I am SO ENVIOUS! ^.^d
We were in Q a couple of years ago and had a great time meeting everyone. We're planning on being there mid-Jan. Will throw some firewood in the bay to bring along. The campfires are the best!
