Title: Questions for those who changed toilet from Vacu Flush to Tecma Silence Plus
Post by: AC7880 on August 16, 2017, 01:44:32 am
I am only information gathering at this point for a future *potential* project.

For anyone who has already changed commode to the Tecma Silence Plus (from the Vacu Flush system):

Is it much quieter?  Are you happy you made the change, or do you wish you still had the Vacu Flush?  Any new maintenance issues with the Tecma?

Our VacuFlush is still working fine now, and thanks to previous owners we have parts for spares and rebuild as needed.  Our black tank is not directly under the commode, so a gravity drop toilet is not a consideration.

Just planning out potential future projects.

I actually haven't seen any reports of this being done by any members here.

One thing with the Techma macerator toilets from SOB forums - they do use notably more water than direct-dump models.  I don't know if they offer the water level variability that the Vacu-flush does, though, or how their water usage compares on average to a Vacu-flush.

I put the Tecma Silence Plus in our 2003 this spring. I have been quite satisfied with the operation. Water level height in the bowl is adjustable. There are two flush modes, low and high. Overall I do think the Tecma uses more water than the Vacuflush but I have no accurate measurement for comparison.

Is it quieter than the Vacu Flush?  Flush worse, better, or about the same?  Did you self install, or hire it done (and where if you don't mind saying).  Any further comments on installation issues?

Thanks for responding. I'm planning out several years worth of the higher dollar projects.  Inverter and solar this year in November, coolant flush and trans flush 2018 (and maybe trans cooler at same time), tires in 2019. Batteries by 2020 - 2021.  Toilet when needed, or just repair/rebuild when the time comes.

We would say the Tecma is quieter than the Vacuflush. Flushes just as well as the Vacuflush (except when the Vacuflush decided not to work at whatever altitude Golden Colorado is). After returning from Colorado I did replace the duckbill valves which probably helped vacuum creation. The Tecma allows for a little more storage from where I removed the vacuum system.

I purchased our Tecma at Bontragers RV surplus in Michigan for $450. It was new with a 2014 mfg date. I installed it myself.  Not too difficult. You are welcome to pm me if you would like more install details.
