Title: Towed car lights & battery charger wiring.
Post by: propman on August 19, 2017, 05:13:57 pm
I am sure I am not the first who wants to do this, yet I am struggling to find the correct parts.
My current set up:
1-) Back of the RV available 7 way female plug (OEM)
2-) 7 way to 4 way adapter (from Wall Mart)
3-) On the towed car portable/magnet lights are currently powered with straight 4 way attached back of the RV to the 7 way to 4 way adapter.
Desired new set up:
1-) In addition to be able to continue using the portable/magnet towed lights with its 4 way plug,
2-) Provide 12v power for towed vehicle battery charger. (Purchased RVi battery charger)
3-) I need some kind of a 5 or 6 way female plug (receiver) with 4 way also to install on my towed car (jeep) bumper where i can connect the 4 way portable/magnet lights connection and the battery charger 12v (this would be permanent) then get a 7 way to 5 or 6 way umbilical cord to connect from back of the RV to front of the Jeep.  7 way to 4 way adapter will no longer be needed.
What do I need to do this preferably without cutting or soldering wires. I am looking at Amazon and etrailer and I am perplexed.
Thank you,
AL

Most GM and Fords now come with combination 7 pin and 4 pin socket assy.  Use the 7 pin to connect to toad and 4 pin for magnetic lights.

Used to have the same problems. Went with a slightly different solution.
C6304 Wireless Tow Light | Product Videos | Techical Info | Blazer-International (http://blazer-international.com/video.php?video=2)
Because you often must leave the key on your towd, also got this so battery was not dead at end of day. Just make sure you have your radio code first.

I thing I should start with something like this on the back of the RV
Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Way to 6-Way,... (https://www.etrailer.com/Wiring/Hopkins/HM47570.html)
&
Amazon.com: Roadmaster (146-7) Flexo-Coil 7-Wire to 6-Wire Power Cord Kit:... (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003VARFSQ/_encoding=UTF8?coliid=I16BAR4PLLG5Q0&colid=3BQVHT09MM31H)
