Title: Lights over the bathroom sink
Post by: kb0zke on August 19, 2017, 08:41:10 pm
Like nearly every rv of our vintage, we have a brass-colored light bar with three globe-shaped bulbs. One died shortly after we got the coach, but the coach included a spare, so that was fine. Now another one has died. The bulbs aren't horribly expensive, but I haven't found any LED replacement bulbs. They also aren't all that great in giving general lighting in the bathroom, so I'm thinking about replacing the whole thing. Haven't run that by the CFO yet, but if someone has done this already maybe you would be willing to share some pictures of what you came up with, as well as a source. Too bad I can't just go down to Lowe's and have her pick out something.

We didn't replace it, cuz we like the way it looks.  Seems to fit in with the overall decor of our coach.  But the light output left a lot to be desired, so I added some home-made LED light bars at the sides of the mirror.  Much better, except now I can see all my wrinkles when I shave.  :o

You have a diffuser over the bulbs that we don't have. Looks like you have the same bulbs we do, though.

David here is the a picture of an led replacement.  I purchased at FMCA from RV Friend?  Sorry I can't give you more info but it is a low temp replacement.

This looks the same as these Amazon.com: 2 x Gold Stars 20990080-02 LED Vanity Light 20-99/1156 Base 130... (https://www.amazon.com/Gold-Stars-20990080-02-Vanity-Natural/dp/B00BT0LZ0O/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1503213212&sr=8-11&keywords=rv+led+light+bulbs)

If you can't find LED's you might try Compact Florescent

Got this at Quartzsite along with the motion detecting porch light. One is brighter than the 3 original.

I had removed that three bulb fixture but replaced it when we found some direct LED replacements. They put out a nice bright light and have a pleasing look to them. I'll append this post if I can find the receipt but for now here's an Amazon example of a similar product. Pretty pricey but you only buy them once.

I suggest you take a look at a Gustafson lighting catalog as they make many very nice fixtures for todays RV's. I bought my replacement vanity and sconce fixtures from them. I have their catalog in pdf format, it is 53 pages long. I could email it to you if you would like it.

Adding a motion detector is a great idea.  Our  6 light runs up the sides of the mirror. Plenty of light but hard to find the switch @ 3AM

ordered these. 2 X DC 12V/24V Body Infrared PIR Motion Sensor Switch LED Light Strip... (http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-X-DC-12V-24V-Body-Infrared-PIR-Motion-Sensor-Switch-LED-Light-Strip-Automatic/132156270738?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649)
