is there a new pirate lingo translator that is running in the background. DUH just did a web search and sept. 19 is international talk like a pirate day, I missed that memo somewhere.
Me, too. It gave me a real fright earlier this morning. Wonders what our host can do.
Brought my wife in to see what was making me laugh. She got a kick out of it too.
Eye me mateyes, that would be explaining why the first mate was wearing an eye patch with the morning grog. Shiver me timbers, I like um with the eye patch and wooden legs....
Along about 1957 in the navy on a destroyer , returning to home port , having been gone for nine months a couple of us made a full size pirate flag , black with white skull and cross bones , ran it up the starboard halyard . The ships we were in convoy with saw our flag and made one of their own and ran them up . This got all hands smiling and talking of seeing their family's etc. . All was well till the two star admiral noticed it then we had to take it down as we entered port . Fun while it lasted . ::) ::) ::) Brad Metzger
It looks like someone put some time into this! Pretty fun - thanks!
I be like 'What the heck"....Funny mates
How funny! How did you make this happen? :D
This is great! Hope there's a drunk Irishman version for St. Patrick's Day
What will tomorrow bring? Perhaps talk like a proper lady day?
When I read the posts out loud (in pirate mode), it scares our dog, and she barks at me.
Funny, no highjinks on April fool's day that I seen this year
may be fun but really makes it hard to understand some of the info posted. I wonder how the search function works with all this garb?
JohnH
The search still works fine, but the links to them don't
I just wasted a half hour posting a new topic and finding it with mis spelling and grammar errors. Figured my copy and paste was bad, so after several deletion and reposting saw no changes. Then tried to edit right on the Forum and found in edit mode, there are no mistakes, but when posted, saw them all again. What a waste of time. So I see the underlying text is ok, but the displayed text is reformatted, so I then figured Forum was hacked. Then I gave up and later learned it is a joke. I will wait to post my next item when things are back to normal.
Just post as always we can translate the lingo.
Thought it odd as many times as we have our timbers shivered, I never read shiver me timbers.
You'll notice it all works fine - nothing was permanently changed, it was just something "fun" to do for the day. The only retained "pirate speak" would be that typed intentionally by the poster, all of the actual original content is there as input by the user.
I enjoyed it and was using the search function on several issues, it worked fine The only thing that wouldn't work were the links and today they are all back to normal.
Well, after I found out what was going on, a while, I'm kinda dense, I liked it. Think it was a very clever diversion from the routine and congratulate the originator. Thank you.
I missed it, do it again!
Like yoda day we need a speak. Fun that would be. Yes, hmmm.
Thanks for the fun. I was born to Irish/Scot parents and brought up on the docks in Liverpool. Everyone spoke like that. When we emigrated to Canada, the kids tried to beat the pucky out of me for my "accent". Had to change, but I remember that "water speak" well! ^.^d
Mike, I do not know what part of Liverpool you lived in but as my family is all from there and I spent 23 yrs growing up there too I never remember talking like the "pirate mode" was portrayed. Yes we have an accent but so does everyone.
No one took the crap out of us when we came to Canada in the 60s, in fact they liked our accents.

Like my mother used to say,"let's not and say we did" on next years pirate talk!!!!
I thought it was very funny, some of the posts had me laughing. I'm glad it was done to bring in a little extra fun for the day and hope we get another fun and creative surprise someday ^.^d Now the grouchy in the bunch may have gotten huffy but that's why they are no fun either ... lighten up a bit and enjoy a little sillyness :D
I'm all for fun and hope I'm not grouchy but what if someone actually had been broke down trying to get info from Long John
silver's parrot.
Then they would have gotten help the same great way this forum always does ... with yarr thrown in for go measure. If typos or mispellings prevent that lord help us all :D
So, on 5 de Mayo we can do it in Spanglish. 😎🤘
