Title: Aqua hot shut off valve
Post by: jerrett on September 30, 2017, 10:19:09 pm
Is there a shut off valve to turn off the supply water to the aqua hot.  I turned off all the cold water supply valves at the manifold and it did not shut off the supply to the aqua hot, I still had water at the faucits.  I tried to find a water system schematic to find such a valve with no luck.  Thanks for the help.

Did you let it run long enough to empty the accumulator? I have the same year and model as you and the hot water does not run with the pump off.

Thank you craneman for your quick response.  So if I had a major leak in the aquahot coils how could I shut the water off to the aquahot and still have cold water.

I don't think I have a water schematic in my records. There might not be an Aqua Hot only shutoff.

I thought such a valve would make it easier to vineger flush the aquahot coils and still be able to use the cold water while doing so.  I could even put a T in the aquahot feed line to make it easier to input the vinegar.

Jerrett,

To shut the water off to the Aqua-Hot...  At the water manifold you have to disconnect the cold supply, and hot return lines at the top of the manifold.  This will disconnect the cold supply to the Aqua Hot, and disconnect the hot return from the Aqua-Hot.  I would recommend opening the hot and cold drain lines on the driver side of the coach that come out from the Aqua Hot system.

Then you build a short length of flexible tube with the same threaded connections and screw that onto the top of the manifold.  This will create a by-pass loop that sends the cold water up and directly over to the hot side of the manifold.

When this is done there is no way to send water to the Aqua-Hot system.

You could modify the setup with ball valves and/or by-pass valves of your choice to cut-off or route water how you wanted to.

Jerrett,

Your coach has brass fittings all over throughout the domestic water system,  they all will cause calcium to peculate out and cut down on your water flow. We acid wash our whole system both cold and hot side. It takes about 2 gal. of vinegar for the whole system.  True you have to use bottled water if you have to acid wash the system and you are living in the coach (24 to 48 hrs.) but we still manage.

As Numbers posted the if you want to have a A/H shut off you will need to put in a couple of isolation valves where the feed and return lines come off the manifold.

Jarrett,
Here is the service manual.

Thank you all for the help.  Hear is what I found out.  The Aqua Hot supply (cold to the AH) is the line coming out the top of the cold side of the manifold and the return (hot water from the AH) is the line coming in the top of the hot side of the manifold.  This is why when I turned off all the cold manifold valves I still had hot water flow because the cold water comes in from the bottom of the manifold and passes straight through to the top.  Hear are some pictures showing the manifold setup.  Again thanks for the help.

This is what Numbers explained in the previous post but I didn't quite understand until I got inside.  Thank you Chris for your directions.
