Is the vacuum generator supposed to run all of the time, except when park brake is set. It has no solenoid valve that I can find. Is it somehow supposed to quit once a certain vacuum is attained. Not connected to my temperature control lever, but I can here the dampers opening and closing. Leaks a lot of compressed air.
There is a control that looks like a thermostat that is supposed to limit how much the vacuum generator passes air to make the vacuum. It may be located out front under the 2 lift up doors.
Thanks red tractor, there are two hoses to the vacuum resivouir ball, I assumed one would shut it down somehow, sprayed some lube in both, maybe a percussion adjustment tomorrow. Or maybe it has a bad diaphragm. Have no idea what is normal operation for this piece. Replaced cracked 27 year old hoses. Some where I've got an old hand powered mighty vac.
The vacuum generator will stop when there is vacuum in the can. If the check valve is bad it never stops.
obsolete vacuum generator (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=27357.msg223782#msg223782)
Thank you craneman, if there is a check valve it must be integral to the tiny Ventura generator. Also read that post. $1.50 inline check valve from the fish aqaurium store may be the answer.
My brain needs rebooted every once in a while.
I bought one at O'reilly's
If you have the Ford AC/heater control, make sure the slider stops at least a quarter inch before the left hand stop. I troubleshooted ours for an hour before I found the problem. Place an insert in the slot to limit the travel of the chrome slider. If the vacuum pump runs all the time or a lot of the time, it will fail.

Note to self keep at least a half dozen 1/4" pipe plugs on board. May even be smaller either case I don't have any. I am NOT stranded on the side of the road.
