Title: Service recommendations zip Dee in Nacagdoches
Post by: Dougpad on October 18, 2017, 05:36:16 pm
Headed to Nacagdoches for Ladies Driving school next week.  Our main awning (manual) needs service.

I saw that Zip Dee lists three service locations:

MOT
Quality RV Sales and Service
Xtreme Paint and Graphics

Would appreciate recommendations.

What's wrong with the awning? XTreme has high marks around here.

It might be a matter of where you can get in. XTreme and MOT are excellent. FOT may also be able to help you. I haven't dealt with the other one you mentioned. I need some fiberglass work done and just made an XTreme appointment for June.  ;D

FOT. And MOT have both worked on our awnings. FOT was fine, MOT not so much. However, MOT has worked on many other issues for us, all good.

Thanks all. We have been without internet for a few days.  Sorry I didn't respond sooner.

Since we have a service appointment scheduled at Foretravel I'll see what they say.

The main problem is that we got a surprise deluge and I did not have it set up to drain.

It stretched the canvas some but we could live with that. The bigger problem is it warped the roller.

I knew canvas and a spring repair would be needed.  Canvas was old and stretched out.  Roller needed help to roll up.

I'm sick about the warpage though.  My wife and I did chinups on the high side and I got it rolled up.  But it is still not right.

When we were at the Zip Dee plant a few years ago they rolled it till the sag was on top, put a ladder under each end and bent it back to shape by hanging of the middle till it was straight (er)

I think it was Pierce that recommended the following method:
1. Position unrolled awning so the sag is down.
2. Park (2) vehicles, back ends are toward awning, so the hitches are under the roller end. Use a ratchet strap over the roller end, not the axle, and tighten until snug.
3. Position a jack under the center of the roller. (I used a 4"x4"x12" long with a "V" cut in one side to help hold location on the roller.)
4. Jack up until sag is no longer visible. You will have to do this several times as "unjacked" is the only way to see if you are getting results.

I did this but chickened out after two tries. I jacked the roller up 2-1/2" the second time and then I stopped because the Green Bay Packers game was starting. Also, the granddaughter needed her van to go for the half-time food.
I did see some correction.
