Title: 2000 domestic AC shroud
Post by: floridarandy on October 20, 2017, 09:26:56 am
Looking at replacing (original?) shrouds on our 2000 U270 13,500 domestics. Anyone know which series domestic a/c?  Looks like there are several.

Air Conditioner Shrouds | AC Shrouds | RV Air Conditioner Covers (http://www.icondirect.com/categories/RV-Exterior-Parts/Air-Conditioner-Shrouds/)

Thanks

Randy,
Remove the air return filter-- should be able to see the model number.

Be sure to take advantage of their free freight offer (hurricane related) to TX/FL.

Randy,
I replaced our U270's shrouds a couple of years ago. We have the Penguin Dometic Duo Therm 13,500 btu units with heat pumps. Here is a link to what I purchased, just verify that yours are the same... Correct, Randy has strips, Don's optional heat pump model might be different.

My Penguin has heat strips and this model Icon fit.  It says it fits all Penguin models.

Amazon.com: ICON Penguin Dometic Duo Therm Air Conditioner Shroud, Polar... (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IABALBO/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

It did have an issue with the rear screw holes not aligning correctly.  Had to drill a new hole about an inch forward on each side, on both units.  Otherwise perfect fit.  Note that it does not come with the foam strips, as does the Dometic.  I was able to use the old foam, which was still in good shape.

I believe that the only difference between the covers for the units is if they are 15,000 BTU with heat pumps, then they require vent holes on the driver side.

So, I put some ICON schrouds on our 2003 earlier this year. They have no holes in the side. We have not used the heat pump yet. Are you all saying it is the heat pump option that requires the holes in the side? It will be easy enough to add some holes if I need to.

Thank you

Ed, That is my recollection from when I was researching the shroud issue by 2015. I believe Michelle pointed that out, but I could be wrong. Anyway, I chatted with the Icon tech support and the story I got was that the 13,500BTU heat pump didn't require the vents, but the 15,000 did.
