Learn from me GV owners :headwall:
opened the two front doors below the windshield and forgot to relock them. Driving down the highway and meet a semi truck- BAM.
Duhhh!
Edit- sorry for the sideways picture...
OUCH! I didn't know they would open far enough to hit the windshield. Now I know - will be sure to check on preflight.
A few years ago we were going thru Norman, OK and, luckily, we were going fairly slow because of the traffic. Suddenly the passenger side little front door popped open.
Finally figured what the intermittent banging we heard--all the way from home in Wisconsin. Now check it B4 every trip.
Seeing Dan's breakage ups the ante for preflight checks. But I can't figure how the door flew up/bent enough to hit the windshield. No assist handles up front? Like ours?
Yes, it has the handles, but 65 mph into the wind and meet a semi was enough to slam it with enough force to "bend around" the handles and smack the windshield. I jumped a foot, then started to cry...
You can see the circle crack in the lower left of that windshield and that is the imprint from the lock on the door...I think the windshield wiper was part of the big crack
Yup been there done that, have two nice cracks from mine, hard lesson learned 8)
during my 1500 mile trip home mine blew open 4 times, taped them shut after the first time with electricians tape, but it would still come open. Fortunatly mine did not hit anything. I have new locks, and attempted to change them last weekend but they were so corroded that they would not budge. I will have to cut locks off this weekend.
What's inside those doors?
A/C condenser and 2 electric fans, vacuum pump and reservoir, the back side of the A/C and heater unit, windshield washer reservoir and pump, windshield wiper motor and linkage, and misc. wiring stuff.
