Title: Ice maker Issue
Post by: floridarandy on November 22, 2017, 10:36:58 am
Any idea what might be causing the ice to form below the catch container? Isys being babe properly except for this "overflow" condition.

Thanks

Randy,

Make sure the lever is up/it doesn't fill with water at least 45 minutes before driving or water can splash out.

There is also a fill adjustment. You may be getting just a few ounces too many and overflowing while the tray refills.

Good suggestion Brett. However, this issue has occurred while the coach is parked and the stable.

The fill level adjustment screw is behind the cover on front of the icemaker.

Randy,
Search the site under "U-line ice maker"
There is an adjustment inside the housing that fronts the ice making mechanism and has the gear set to move the ejector fingers around.

By the way. mine works great, but it will get ice on the side wall and bottom after time just from opening and closing the door too much.

Lynn/Len - when you speak of the "front cover" are you referring to the plate at the bottom front of the icemaker where the on-off switch and temp control are located?  Or are you talking about the white plastic face on the icemaker mechanism itself?  If the later I don't immediately see how that white plastic face is removed.  Don't want to force it.

Thanks

If I remember correctly, it is the cover on the front of the icemaker mechanism and it snaps on.

Correct.

You can also google: ice maker fill adjustment.  Usually a little screw with + and - once the cover is removed.

I have seen many of them, have the fill tube slip back from the tray in the back. And or the sealant leaking. I have also seen them freeze up in the rear fill, so they over flow water. If it keeps giving you trouble, just replace it. Not worth the hassle messing with it:

RV Dometic #3108703.517 M1 icemaker with thermal mastic / makes 8 RADIUS... (https://www.ebay.com/itm/RV-Dometic-3108703-517-M1-icemaker-with-thermal-mastic-makes-8-RADIUS-cubes/322889600115?epid=1800597222&hash=item4b2db84c73:g:GIkAAMXQC-tTDM2L)

They are actually pretty much all a like, and same as home ones.

I recommend you remove the grate below the door and check the fins for pet hair also. This area seems to be a great collector of hair & lint, obstructing the airflow.

I was able to locate the +/- adjustment for water level but it didt fix the problem. Further investigation shows the water that is accumulating at the base is overflow on the back wall where the water fill tube comes in.  We're leaving for Thanksgiving and then the Florida rally so we'll keep an eye on it.

At a minimum we will harvest ice and store it in the ice maker since the compressor keeps things really cold.

Further ideas are welcome.

Randy,
Just a thought, make sure that it is not dropping down the back side of the ice maker and collecting on the floor behind the machine. You don't want problems with water back in there.

Safe travels and happy Thanksgiving.

Randy is your fill tube opening sealed, being in Florida where humidity is king, any air leakage is going to sweat run down and collect at the bottom

What's involved in pulling the unit to check for leakage in back?  Also how can water supply to unit be turned off?  Looks like supply starts under kitchen sink Everpure?

Randy,
Not sure where your water supply comes from. Ours comes from the wet bay which is just below it. It has been over a year since I removed ours and repaired it. I don't remember exactly where those screws are, but know I had to remove the bottom grill to find at least some of them. I do remember it was a RPITA to remove and then to put back into place.

I gotta say that little machine is a working wonder, though. Other than some very minor problems it has worked wonderfully. While the refrigerator won't keep ice cream hard, that sucker sure will.

Good luck and keep us posted.

The shut off valve should be in the line that goes to the water filter under the sink.

I took mine out a couple of nights ago to get to some wiring issues, four or five screws on the face of the unit, and it slid right out. There was enough tubing and cord coiled in the back to allow easy service. My 89 is working well making more ice than I can use.
