Post by: Old phart phred on November 27, 2017, 09:13:24 pm
Got my new propane alarm today bad news is it's much smaller than the old one now I have a hole to fill in the cabinets. Any suggestions?

Our new one was wider but not as tall as the old one. I bought a length of molding that pretty well matched the walnut and cut two pieces of the proper size to cover over the gap.

David what brand did you purchase, that sounds like it almost a perfect match to what my existing unit is?

I found something in my large storage bin (aka 2-car garage) that might work for you. I had saved the blades from an old ceiling fan. One side was colored walnut, and the other side cherry. It is a perfect thickness for covering a larger hole  to install a smaller doodad. Just cut it to size, and use a colored sharpie to cover the freshly-sawed edges. Since the blade is fan-shaped, judicious selection of cutting edges will leave you with at east one finished edge.
