Title: Prosine 2.5 Kaput
Post by: Travelin' Man (RIP) on November 28, 2017, 06:56:59 pm
The old Prosine 2.5 crapped out last week so I'm ordering a Magnum 2812 to replace it.

I have a couple of questions about the install if anyone has gone there before me.

I was told by an inverter shop that I also have to change the battery temp sender as Prosine isn't compatible with the Magnum and
could cause serious damage to the inverter.
Amazon.com: Magnum Energy ME & MS Series Battery Monitor Kit (ME-BMK):... (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DG5SSH8/ref=pd_luc_rh_bxgy_02_02_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)
That thing sells for $146.15 and looks like a $15.00 item at most.

I have a Xantrex Echo charger that I'm hoping won't have to be replaced as well, for being incompatible.
Amazon.com: Xantrex 82-0123-01 Echo Charge for 12 and 24V Systems: Cell... (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0016G8RT8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

And, what is the electronics bay front sidewall constructed of?  Apparently the Magnum weighs in at 62 lbs, which is twice the weight of the Prosine so I thought I'd ask.

The Echo charger will work fine. The Xantrex 3012 might use the same battery temp sensor. I know the sensor from my old Xantrex 2500 works on my 3012. It just bolts onto one of the battery lugs.

Thanks, I'll give Magnum a call in the AM and double check, but they'll probably tell me I need a new one............high profit margin.

The echo charger  should work, it is basicly a branded battery combiner. Believe you will also have to buy the magnum remote panel if you want to use the battery monitor kit, which is another $150+.

X2 what Jim said about the Battery Monitor Kit.  If all you need is a new battery temperature sensor, then they are quite a bit less expensive.  A rat chewed through the wires to my sensor last year.  I ordered a replacement from the outfit linked below.

Don't know about the bay wall on your coach, but AM Solar mounted our MS2812 on the side wall of the center storage bay.  They fabricated a nice aluminum mounting plate which was screwed to the vertical steel frame members in the wall, then bolted the inverter to the mounting plate.

When my Prosine went out the Xantrex bolted directly in the same place and ,yes, you do need a new monitor.  As for battery temp' I don't recall it being an issue.

On my coach, autostart is not in any way connected to inverter.

Thanks for the helpful info Chuck.  Is the Magnum pictured a MS2812?
