Post by: Super8mm on November 28, 2017, 09:38:42 pm
Has anyone stored their coach in the Nacogdoches area waiting on MOT?

Thanks

I think most live in their units. Don't they have a yard to park it in if you are in the area and can leave in there?

I asked MOT if I could leave it there and they said  no.  They cant get me in until about Jan 4th.

I am going to pick the coach up in Houston and take it to Herman's to put new rubber on it and was thinking of just leaving it there until MOT can get it in for brake service.

I think that most people either leave their coach with them or live in it.  They have room and electricity for the coaches they service.

Did you check with Old Town Motorcoach?  Perhaps they could get you in for a brake job while you're in town?  (I assume they do brake work).

I have not, I just did a search on here for them.

I will be calling them  in the morning, been reading what folks have to say about them on here and they seem pretty positive.

Also, if motorcade member, I think you can pay for storage at FT

Thanks, I have read about that was planning on joining Motorcade.

I need to call them anyway as I need some keys made.  When I closed on the coach today the lady said there was only one key for it.

I may be mistaken, but I think I read here somewhere on the Forum, that the free membership was only for that calendar year. Which I would assume ends in December. Can somebody enlighten me on this fact?

Don't start your Motorcade free year until January.  It is free for the calendar year.  Storage parking at FOT is pretty inexpensive.

Check with Mike H.  They store their coach in NAC.

Mike & Jackie have a gorgeous coach house attached to their home. I have seen coach storage right at the freeway by Denny's off the loop & by the truck stop, can't think of the intersections, do a search but it's not far from FOT or OTM, south side of the road right off the loop, southeast corner I think, look for truck stop.

I just talked to the lady and she said that as it is so late in the year they can start the membership now and it will run until Dec 2018.

I think Big Truck Alignment in Huntington, which is 9 miles south of Lufkin on hwy 69, does brakes.  #936-485-0701.

Chappell,

Are they familiar with the Meritor air disk brake-- proper grease, proper procedure and have helper springs and slide pins if needed?

Most places that work on trucks have never or only rarely seen this brake system.

I see a couple of RV Parks west from Dennys and south of the truck stop, are those the ones your were referring too?

Brett, I really don't know.  When I was there having my wheel alignment, I asked them if they did brakes.  They said yes.  So I guess this a question one should ask.

Not to hijack this tread but I had nightmares getting brakes fixed on my coach correctly.  My second & third trip (attempt) was to a shop in Houston that works on fire truck brakes that are Meritor.  After being in shop for the third try I ended up going to MOT and brake problems finally ended.  Moral to story is just because they work on Meritor does not mean they know what they are doing.

The phones in Nac must be working today, I called OTM and they cant do the cleaning on my brakes.

Then I called Foretravel again and they can do it but they wont start until Jan 17th but I can leave it there and just at the most pay for a campsite.

I feel better now that I have everything lined out, next hard part will getting the DW up at 4am next Thurs  ;D

Why wait on MOT when infinity can get u in and their hourly rate is less. Just could not get in to FOT or MOT.  Got right in at Infinity.  Redid a.c. work not correctly done at MOT.

Totally concur.  And, even if they DO work on Meritor brakes, and they usually DO know what they are doing, doesn't mean you won't luck out and get the new-hire tech on his first day on the job on Monday after a big party weekend.

Second moral:  Be VERY vigilant after having brake work done by any shop.  During the first couple hundred miles of driving, stop often and check brake/wheel temps with a non-contact IR thermometer.  Immediately stop and investigate any strange "feel" or smell while driving.  Even the best shops can make mistakes!

MOT said they could change pads and the like but they could not take them apart and clean out the chassis grease and put them back together.

Brakes is one thing I don't skimp on, when I rebuilt the brakes on my 5er they were in such bad shape due to PO using chassis grease on the wheel bearings which got hot and ran out of the seals and the rear axle the shoes were full of grease and the wiring for the magnets was burnt off so I replaces bearings, seals and complete brake assemblies.

I also carry a IR thermometer to check axle and tire temp, did you know tires on the sun side will be 10° to 15° hotter than the shade side?

Guess I will have to take anti-freeze with me to winterize it while they are putting tires on it if it is going to set there for about 5 weeks.
