Title: Radiator showing signs of leaking on upper tank
Post by: Andy 2 on December 12, 2017, 04:30:23 pm
So was doing my normal looking touching and shaking on the GV today and noticed coolant leaking from the top tank, not sure if tightening the bolts will help, but going to try that.
It's not a big leak, there is no pudding on the ground. So was thinking after trying to tighten the bolts if maybe some Barr's would be worth trying.
I would be surprised if this was not the original radiator. Any thoughts
Thanks Andy.

MOT said that the first thing they do for a radiator leak is put Bar's Leak in the radiator and drive it to operating temp.  That would more than likely take care of a small leak.  It is a cheap try and it worked for me.

Andy mine was leaking at one of the tanks. Snugged the bolts up and added Bars Leak,  not another drop of a leak since. That's was 4 years ago. If you have a water filter be sure and close the valves for a while so it won't catch the Bars leak. I cut the water filter apart 2 years later,  it had Bars leak in it but was NOT clogged up in the least. 👍

On the bottle it said up to 4 gallons.  I put 4 bottles in mine.  my radiator wholes  about 15 gallons.  I did not cut off the valves at the filter nor was I told to.  I will change the filter after a few runs.  My cut off valves are on each side of the filter.

When I replaced my radiator, I also removed the upper tank and found a thick sheet of rust on the back side.  It would not have been long before it would have rusted through.  I cleaned it up and spread a layer of JB Weld on it as you would Bondo.

Be care full about shutting off the coolant filter on the M11.

I put 3 bottles in mine. If you use the tablets you can crush them before you add them makes them desolve quicker.

FT Service just added 5 bottles to my M-11 system.  Bar's Leaks worked fine for years until I changed coolant, then a small leak started-no puddle on the ground.
