My safe is fwd of the copilot seat and carpeted over. I cannot find a release for the cover.
Are you saying you can't get to the safe door for the carpet? If so you will have to cut the carpet. If you don't have the combination you can call Foretravel with the coach serial number and provide a Drivers license ID and they will give you the combination. I am answering questions you didn't ask but maybe it helped.
Thanks Dub. I have safe combo. I can see and feel the rectangular carpet and floor cutout where the safe is hidden. Just can't get the floor hatch to open.
The hinge is on the dash side, so you pull on the carpet closest to the pass. chair front. ^.^d just trying to help
I tried that. Thanks.
Was the carpet replaced? Sounds like they carpeted over it?
No, the carpet is nicely cut out around the hatch door. There's no sign of any release of the door.
Just pull on the carpet itself. No latch
Take a pair of pliers and grab a group of strands on the seam in front of the seat and lift up. Probably hasn't ever been used Or Maybe You will find the Elusive Foretravel Windfall of Cash and diamonds!
Well , Did You figure it out? You cannot just leave us hanging in suspense. We're nosey we want to know!
I'll let you know the moment I can get to the coach on Monday (it's in the shop).
Stick the blade of your jacknife into the groove and pry the door open.
What have you found in your safe? (split from furnace duct redo) (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=32734.msg294232#msg294232)

Did that. It won't open. Clearly there is a latch on the outer door, with a secret release somewhere. I've searched to coach over for secret releases to no avail.
then use a thin prybar as it has to open and there are no known secret latches on any. Cannot harm anything by using a bit of force.

My PO had no idea there was a safe. And He had owned it for 22 years. Good tug on the carpet lifted up the hatch to reveal the safe. No hidden latches or anything just a good tug up on the carpet. Also a 1989.
If the carpet has been replaced? Maybe the installer got carried away with the carpet adhesive. I would do as suggested and use a flat bar or large flat blade screwdriver. Try running a sharp knife around the three non hinged sides, make sure carpet cutout and cover lid are in alignment.
