Title: Headlight Dimmer on steering column
Post by: POPPASMURFF#1 on December 14, 2017, 04:12:07 pm
Ok it me again, hope you good folks don't get tired of me.

Headlight switch on das was bad, so I changed it. Now I have dash lights, and High beam lights but no low beams.

When I click to low beams nothing, so I am wondering, who out there has experience in changing the dimmer switch in the column and by chance would someone have a part number.

Working the bugs out one at a time.

I would start by locating the low beam relay-- see if power is getting to it and that it is functioning properly.

I just looked at our 12V wiring diagram (B-2037).  I also do not find any headlight relay (high or low beam).  I can't even find the dimmer switch on the diagram.  Appears to me that the lights are powered directly through the headlight switch, but where is the dimmer?

I have had my steering column completely apart.  I didn't look specifically at the dimmer switch, but I think it is a purely mechanical detent type of thing.  I don't know if there is even anything that you can replace.  Just can't recall exactly what it looked like.  You might have a broken or shorted wire somewhere in the column.

If you decide to tear into your steering column, the thread linked below may be helpful.  Assuming you have the same steering column, of course.
