Title: Paint /Fiberglass Checking on Foretravel Motorhomes?
Post by: Jim1521 on December 15, 2017, 09:34:43 am
I'm in the market for a used Class A MH, and have been researching heavily.  I came across an issue that occurred in the early-mid 2000's about a problem with fiberglass, which caused tiny spider-web cracks.  A large number of manufacturers had this problem - but apparently not all.

I've searched extensively and found many of the manufacturers - but have not seen a single reference to Foretravel experiencing this problem.

Did this problem appear on any of the Foretravel motorhomes?  If so, what year was it remedied?  Most of the others seemed to have had it fixed by 2009.  thanks.

Yes, my understanding is it does appear in FTs of the 2005+/- mostly in darker colors.

Our 2003's black "swoosh" is badly checked (and some of the lighter colors).  When we bought the coach in 2013, Xtreme repainted a large portion of the passenger side and other badly checked areas.  That helped for about a year.  It is now as checked, if not more so, than before Xtreme repainted it.  As I understand it, the problem is from the underlying fiberglass.  We had thought that Xtreme had a process that solved it.  Apparently not.

Yes, that's correct; it's the fiberglass.  The company that manufactured it went out of business; so there's never been a good recourse to pursue.

The only thing that can be done is to replace all the sides.  I read on various boards that the cost to do so is between $18k ~ $30k.

2002 has it also... comes with the territory

What I can tell you ... the parts and pieces under my checking is a whole lot better than any other brand out there so dont shy away from one that has this issue
