Title: Step won’t work, 1st test didn’t work need some ideas
Post by: hdff on January 06, 2018, 06:24:19 pm
Step won't Work, I had an air leak at the vacuum generator that is in the well behind the step, it gets it's air to operate from the same airline that operates the step. In another thread it was suggested to plug the airline going to the vac generator to see if the air leak was enough to not let the step work. I plugged that line at solenoid behind the step but still the step doesn't work. Any suggestions on my next troubleshooting task? The step worked fine the last time I had the coach out.

maybe besides the vacuum idea there is a magnetic reed swich at bottom left of door that gives a signal to step valve to operate. Maybe that is not doing its job. Simple unit so check that wires etc are good.

Keith,

Are you getting air through the regulator that feeds air to the  shuttle valve (Norgen valve)? Have you checked the magnetic switch on the door post to make sure it is working? (John types faster than we do)

Other than making sure the wires are hooked up is there a way to test it or do I just replace it

You need to check for voltage to the step valve if it gets voltage when the door is closed and the step does not close and it does have air pressure then the valve would need to be changed.

just test for continuity between the connection screws while opening and closing the screen door.

Got the step working again. John was right the reed switch was bad, replaced it with a new one and the step works fine. one weird thing to note I bought the same brand switch as the one on the coach and I hooked it up on the same posts as the old one and it worked opposite to what it needed to do. so I hooked it up to the other screw and it worked fine. the old one was hooked up to the N/O post, but the new one had to be hooked to the N/C post which seemed right to me.. oh and of course the wire wasn't long enough so I had to scab a new wire on to get about 1/3" more on the wire
