Title: Removing tape and residue
Post by: kb0zke on January 14, 2018, 05:46:30 pm
A couple of years ago the right front docking light ring fell out. I got a replacement from FOT and put it in, but it also seemed loose, so I put some packing tape on all four rings until I could get some small bolts to hold everything together. Well, I finally got that done, but now I have the old tape and residue to remove. I've tried using Goo Gone and rubbing compound. Neither works. Do I dare try a razor blade?

Acetone worked for me. Then clean it all up with isopropyl alcohol.

Dave, start with the least agressive stuff first.  Alcohol or mineral spirits.  Try WD40.  It works wonders getting off caulking.

Not trying to hijack but wonder if Foretravel sells the round docking light nacel as in the picture, would love to convert my
sealed beam to that style to point to the back. Will check with them,Nilight makes a round led that would fit.

I've taken some nasty stuff off with a product called "Goof-Off". I use the "Bounce" wipers (made for throwing in clothes dryers). As said, easy does it, let the G-O settle in and wipe easily.  ^.^d

Get the larger bottle, this small can works, it's stronger, but the smell is terrible! Hdwr. stores and big boxes have it.
