Title: Dash Panel
Post by: Super8mm on January 20, 2018, 05:22:58 pm
Are these gold strips around the instrument panels the lights that glow at night?

Yesterday when I was bring my coach home I noticed a flash from the corner of my eye and at first I thought it was a screw that was arcing and the only thing I had done was tilt my steering wheel down more and after I moved it back up it stopped.

I looked at it today and realize there is not screw there.

What can I do with it now?

Assuming it is an issue with conductivity between the "clean" areas of he gold conductive material, there are a number of conductive "repair kits" that can easily repair it.

Been there, done that with PC boards.

Thanks Brett

So if this is conductive material and one of the strips delaminated from the dash and curled up and touched the other or something metallic shorted them together it could cause an arc type light and little smoke tail?

I will go hunting for the repair kits as this should be one of my easier gremlins to fix "LOL"

Maybe others can confirm or deny, but the electroluminescent dash panels may not have started until after your year coach. Ours is a 99' and has them, but I know a friends 96' does not. Do they light up at all? How about the A/C heater controls? The dash of the non-electroluminescent type looks nearly identical, but there are bulbs behind the heater A/C controls etc. whereas on ours, there are no lamps for those controls. Here is a picture of the dash lit up.

With 5179 build number it will have the electroluminescent dash panel,  by this build number both 270 and 295 had them as standard equipment. .

Yes Don the trim does glow but not sure about the control having lights, I know all the gauges do but the volt meter is burnt out.

I have only seen the dash for about 45 minutes at night and I had a big power gremlin I was fighting at the time.    :o

Our build 160th earlier #5019 U270 does not have the built-in electroluminescent dash.  We have small bulbs behind panel.

Thanks B&C
That narrows down the beginning of the electroluminescent dash. My gauges have bulbs but the trim lights  up and is visible at night in sort of a bluish green color.

I've got the electroluminescent dash on build #5000.  Still works fine.
