Title: Need a big favor..Sealand vacuum flush model 3048
Post by: saddlesore on January 22, 2018, 09:48:10 pm
HELP!
Doing the swap out of half ball and changing out the seals
When I went to disconnect the vacuum control and the power cable. The red and black wires pulled out of the little plugin on the power cable
I need to have someone take a look at their 3048 and tell me which wire goes where..
There is a tiny set screw that holds each wire into the little plug.
on the control board they are labeled #'s 1 and 2
thnx!

that's the gravity model, not a VacuFlush.  Manuals for the latter in the forum Media section:

Didn't see any smoke so I think that #1 is red  & #2 is black wire.
still will not keep water in bowl & vacuum pump runs continuously, will stop for 2 or 3 seconds (green light blinks on ) and then goes back to pumping...
Do have a 3 blink on LED #11...insufficient vaccum
Question....
I know that the spacer between the flat gasket/ball seal and the fat bowl seal screws off/on..  Does the flat plate that the ball seal lays on also screws off/on? (Mebbe I need to tighten or loosen OR clean under it as well......just do not know.
Can only get the half ball to open/close if in service mode, will not open . close and refill the bowl on it's own. but the lights on the control board light up like they should I think.

Also had to re-use the brass shaft, as the new shaft is a half round and the original is a double flat. (where the set screw clamps) Will not fit my control arm slot.
Oh well ,,, tomorrow will be another day.

Thank You to all.

Will tackle replacing the vacuum pump and duck bills tomorrow..severe storm warnings & rain or be damned.. hopefully that will nudge it enough to work..

Gotta get it working... funeral Saturday a few hours away so want to use the coach instead of motel.

If the water leaks down, that could cause the insufficient vacuum light (control panel light goes from green to red, right?)  Seems like there is still a leak at the bowl seal somewhere.  If the water level was maintained, but you lost vacuum, that would indicate a leak further down the system.

That will be the behavior if the red control panel light is on - it won't open the ball unless the control panel light is green when in normal mode.

ETA - looking at the system, with a new flush ball and seal (and clean, smooth sealing surfaces), I would start to look at how well/firmly the flush ball is "seating".  Check the motor/rotor linkage for looseness.  Check the closed limit switch (not sure if it is adjustable).

Well the white plate that the ball seal rests on, It just popped out without much effort, looks like it is sealed to the toilet body with a small bead of "plumbers tape"..off the local plumbers shop..

After much research, cannot find out if there is supposed to be a gasket between the white plate that the ball seal rests on or not..
So... cleaned off all the "plumbers putty"... thinking that the putty may have been holding that plate up just far enough that the rubber ball seal could not get a good seal when the half ball rotated closed.
Will reset the toilet and give a go after dinner..

Yup, have that ..tnx, now the replacement seal has swelled and "puckers" when try to get it to seat on the bottom plate, when compared to the old one I took out it is quite a bit thinner.....grrrrr

Minor discovery..... The new half ball seal does not like silicone spray...I'm thinking that is whats causing it to swell and pucker on top of the ball..washed it with very hot water and press dried between two towels over night..now has shrank back close to the size it should be...(grew 1/2 inch in diameter) weird to say the least!)
