Hello all,
Had a little mishap, anyone know if you can get a replacement plastic roof cover top?
Thanks, windwalker
Kool o matic mfg long gone and no parts are available, except for after-market rubber bumpers and motor. Patch yours with aluminum tape or find a take-off from another. The cover comes off and a new screen can be patched, along with your own repairs with flashing, tape, etc. We still think the fan is worth keeping because it works in rain and moves a lot of air.
Thanks for the reply, can fix what I have and will do that. Just wanted to keep it looking good.
I think I may paint the whole thing anyway, was kind of bone colored in comparison to the ac's and roof.
Thanks, windwalker
It's been discussed here in the past, the idea of having a talented sheet metal shop make up a replica cover. Might not look exactly like the original fiberglass model, but could perform the same function. I don't know if anyone has actually pursued this idea. I would think any shop that has this capability would find a nice profitable ittle niche market for sturdy Kool-O-Matic replacement (metal) covers.
Surely someone on this Forum knows of a shop or metal fabricator who would be interested in this idea?
Howdy Windwalker,
Link to a previous discussion, some pretty good ideas: Need Outside, Rooftop Fiberglass Vent Cover For Kool O Matic (http://www.foreforums.com/index.php?topic=25245.0)
Good Luck, Dave A
Maybe I am not reading this right or?
My roof top cover is metal but the inside 'ceiling" one is plastic for the Kool o matic fan. According to this discussion I am reading it that "windwalkers " is plastic on the roof???

30th Jan, so I took a trip up to roof to clean solar panels and looked at the vent and sure enough it is Plastic cover and I even painted it a few years ago so should have known, sorry for mis information.
Perhaps yours was "re-skinned" John. Here is a picture of ours. As you can see the exterior base is metal, but the cover is plastic... and a very good quality of plastic I might add. Still flexible and not yellowed by 20 years of exposure!

Might be worthwhile to send pictures and dimension to these folks and see if they can add it to their model line of excellent molded plastic replacement parts: Popular RV Rooftop Replacements (http://www.icondirect.com/rooftop-replacements/)
Be sure to let them know that there are a lot of these covers out there with no replacements available.
Just wondering....since Kool-o-matic is gone. They at one time made that cover from a mold that is probably laying somewhere on a storage shelf. Has anyone explored that avenue or is it pretty much a dead issue? I think that even when companies go out of business there is a certain amount of value to old molds and custom machining parts that would have caused someone to throw it on a shelf "just in case". Perhaps it was part of a larger buy at action by someone or some company. Or it could have just ended up in the dumpster.....
I had 2 holes in mine and had it re-fiberglassed in Mexico. Looks good again.
On our previous coach, after repairing the Kool o matic several times, we replaced it with a MaxxFan Deluxe Remote Control vent.
We liked it a lot. Pretty quiet, good auto functions, built in rain cover, remote control, moved as much air as the Kool o matic did when Kool o matic was on medium speed. Same size opening in roof.
Here is one source for it: MaxxFan Deluxe Remote Control RV Ventilator System, White Lid - Maxxair... (http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/maxxfan-deluxe-remote-control-rv-ventilator-system-white-lid/48933)
