Wow ---- Did I ever have a problem getting the oil filters off of my 3208T engine !!! A screw driver driven thru them with a 2ft pipe on the end of it just barely made it. Had to drive that screw driver into each one a couple of times to get it loosened up with the room I had. One of the O rings stuck to the base and the filter housing had to be twisted and pulled away from it. It took my wife pushing on the pipe and me beating on the end of the screw driver that was sticking out of the opposite side. It appears that the folks that changed the oil last spring didn't lubricate the O ring and seating surface, and over tightened the filters. This post is just to remind folks to lube those filter O rings and do not over tighten them. Have a great day ---- Fritz

Not too sure about the 3208 but the bigger cats and Detroit's were known that if the filter was on way tight you could back out the treaded insert the filter screws onto in the housing. Use a rag or a glove and reach up and screw the threaded insert in by hand before installing the new filter.
Always do that on mine . my series 60 does it every time filters are removed. I will point that out to the guy doing my service if I'm at a Speedco etc. I say something like I know you know this, But those dang filter nipples back off every time I remove those filters! Will you check them when you get them off for me? That way I don't piss off the oil change guy thinking I know more than him ^.^d
Another reason to use Cat filters,thicker metal.
Some folks do not understand, tighten by hand then 1/4 turn more>.

used the 1/2" drive end and both of us pulled/puwshed on the ratchet to get the filter moving.
Interesting nasty comment on my part -- this filter was installed by one of those NAC people that some here rave about.

Been using the same thing for 20 years, think I paid $4.99 at HF. Works on every filter and even air dryer cartridge.

No. The filter looked fully intact and normal, just cranked down to the point it wouldn't move with a normal wrench and corresponding leverage. I expect that the individual hand tightened it and then "just for safety" added an extra turn (or two?) with a standard filter wrench.
I have a CAT engine and believe that Cat knows what filters should do for their engines so I always insist on CAT filters or bring my own. Unfortunately, I don't always insist on putting them on myself. The one exception is the fuel/water separator which was a FT add-on.
