5900-0211 Shurflo Extreme Series Smart Sensor 5.7 intermittently will not pump. Called Shurflo tech help, described issue, advised that the problem is the software or the switch, pump is obsolete and no repair parts are available. The current pump pumps 5.7 gals/min at 65 psi. Replacement pump recommended is model 4048, 4 gals/min at 55 psi. Any other suggestions or thoughts? I have included a picture of the current installation. On the outlet side of the pump there is a device that appears to be an adjustable pressure regulator. Is that correct?

Just to the left of the pump head in the picture is a strainer. I always though those were on the input side to keep junk out of the pump (that is the way it is on mine) but I see a little red arrow that seems to indicte flow going the other way. The black thing may be a pressure regulator.
The 4048 has the same mounting hole pattern.
I have basically the same setup, on my coach, the device that appears to be a pressure regulator is the electric fill valve. When water fill button is pushed, the pump is bypassed and the water tank is filled. Mine opens again when sensor say full tank, and if fill hose still connected pressurizes water system. I have a 4048 pump and it works fine.
Don & Sue, We are VERY familiar with the Shurflo 5.7 water pump.
A few years ago, Shurflo was replacing them for no cost. All will fail sometime. The 5.7 was Shurflo's attempt at a variable speed pump that would pump less at low water flows, and the control is from a large circuit board in the base.
The 5.7 can easily be converted to a full flow single speed pump, so either continue to use it, or if you take it out, keep the pump for other uses, like pumping water from a 5-gal container, etc.
To convert, disconnect the red positive coach wire that is going into the base, and connect it directly to the pressure switch on the end of the pump. Just remove the wire from the base that now goes to the end pressure switch and put the coach positive wire to the same end terminal. Now the pump will run at full speed and turn off when pressure switch opens. Without an accumulator, the pump will cycle a lot at low water flows, but continue to work just fine. Adding a small plastic Shurflo accumulator will help a little with the cycling. Add the accumulator anywhere on any water line.
Replacement with a Shurflo 4048 or 4008 will be fine. They both have 1/2" connections in place of the special 5.7 connections. These are upgraded models that have an internal spring loaded bypass that opens with low faucet openings to flow 'excess' water flow back to input side of pump, thus keep pump running at some lower faucet openings. But the 4048 & 4008 will still cycle a little at some low flows, and the small accumulator will also help with these new pumps.
You should also buy a new filter with 1/2" threaded fittings and mount it on input water line. Also may want to use flexible in and out water line connections for ease of installation and a quieter pump. Shurflo also sells flexible lines.
We have tried the 4048 and the 4008 and found the smaller 4008 works fine for our coach needs. We do have the small Shurflo accumulator.
BTW, for 20 years we only use city water hose to fill coach tank, then disconnect hose and use our water pump for all water pressure flows, including our showers, etc. So our water pump sees a lot of use.
4048 ordered. Likely I will modify 5900 as suggested and keep as spare.

Had an intermittent problem with our Shurflo (undoubtedly not the same model as yours) and after moving carpet and wires around under the couch I found a loose ground wire. Tightened the screw five years ago and pump has worked fine since.
Always check wiring circuits and grounds for snug connections.
I have found the micro switch, v-15-2C26-1, fails.. an easy repair, part available from Digi-key. Remove 4 screws holding switch body to pump, remove and replace switch.. under $10.00 Be sure and turn off water !!
