Title: Dash and Gauge light bulbs
Post by: Lon and Cheryl on March 28, 2018, 07:03:18 pm
I would like to replace the bulbs on my 95 dash.
The bulbs in the VDO gauges look like they pull out but didn't seem to want to budge with a slight pull, I thought I should check here to confirm the procedure to remove them before I break something. A LED replacement would be preferred.
I also want to change the bulbs or update the bulbs that illuminate the control switches, has any body done this ?
What route did you go?

Lon,

Get you a CTA 1012 mini bulb plier.  Works great for those of us with big fingers. They give a great grip so you can just give the bulb a better tug if stuck in the socket. Ours just comes straight out, with your '95 they may be different than ours though. They can be got at a local electrical supply company or off the net.

I use a thin rubber type glove for a good non slippery grip. Bulbs should pull out.

The suggested bulb puller came today. I was able to remove the VDO bulbs but even with a magnifying glass can't read the bulb number. I would like to replace with a LED equivalent.

I also removed the bulb from one of the dash control lights. It shows a JKL-330 bulb. When I look it up I see its a 24v bulb.
Should this be replaced with a 12v bulb or would the voltage fluctuation kill a 12v bulb?

I MUCH higher light out put would be great for the JKL-330, I can hardly see the dash controls at night.
