Title: Foretravel purchase concerns!
Post by: Tommy D on April 15, 2018, 09:57:32 pm
Looking to possibly purchase a Foretravel to give tours. I think there is a need in my area for travel in luxury for tours that would last 8 hours at a time with travel to 3 different locations with approximately 120 miles total travel. Would want the guests to be comfortable.  What problems/issues should I be concerned about in a Foretravel motorhome from 2000-2005. If there is carpet, can it be replaced by tile or hardwood by any installer? Are there any things to know or special tricks about installing tile on a moving bus?

First problem liability. Then insurance for commercial vehicle and proper drivers license. The coach would have to have in motion dot legal seating for all passengers which would be a problem in itself. A used tour bus might be a lot more practical, easier to remove seating and add amenities.

For what you plan to use it for, I would suggest looking for a non-slide unit.  The slides seem to be one of the most issue-prone parts of the coach and a non-slide unit is better for the travel portion of your trip.  Bouncing between 3 different stops on a 120 mile day-trip, you would probably never use the slides anyway.

Depending on how many people you plan to carry, seat belts may be an issue.  Other than the front seats and 1 couch, there aren't typically many options for carrying paid passengers that your insurance company would approve of.  I would check with them to understand what your liabilities would be and how you can mitigate them.

We looked into a bus conversion doing executive charters for a while then changing over to a motorhome.  The thing that killed the deal for us was the liability insurance needed to carry passengers.  Also, there are new DOT regulations on equipment today that have to be met.  Professional CDL license needed for the driver/drivers.....etc.  After all that, do a cost/benefit analysis to see  how many tours you would have to do to be profitable.  With one bus not sure if you would be making money with all the requirements.

Do your homework first- best of luck............... ^.^d
