Title: Sealing Underneath 1st Coach Step
Post by: floridarandy on May 03, 2018, 08:15:25 am
There is exposed wood under the 1st fixed entry step in the coach. While this isn't exposed when coach is running down the road, it is exposed at stop since opening entry step is in the down position.  This wood seems solid but the first layer of plywood is flaking in a couple of places. What is recommended to seal this area to prevent deterioration?

I like to use CPES from www.rotdoctor.com
This is a thin clear penetrating 2 part epoxy sealer that is absorbed into the wood fibers.  Once it cures then the wood can't absorb any water.  They also make another thicker epoxy that can be used to rebuild damaged or rotten wood.

Randy, do you have a picture? I though mine was wood but it turned out to be fiberglass.

Jeff, the area in question is about 1" wide and located in front of the fabric shielding the step mechanism, and under the 1st treaded step in the coach....not the door the flips up and down to enter.
