Title: Door under tray in dash
Post by: Jeff and Claire on May 05, 2018, 06:15:02 pm
There is a door under the pullout tray on the dash on the 2003 U320. We have tried to open it but short of ripping it off the hinges we can not get it open. What is behind the door and how can we get it open? Looked in the Foretravel manual and found nothing. I think I tried to do a search here on the Forum and found nothing but maybe I'm not using the right words. Thanks, Claire

It's a storage area. Should pop open by pushing in. Mimi

I did try pushing it in but got nowhere. Will try again with a little more finesse. Since it's just storage I won't worry about getting it open. Though if maybe the previous owner stashed gold bars in there I might want to attack it with a little more vigor 😬
Thanks all

It has a magnet cabinet door lock. Push on it should release it.. side note.. anyone figure out how to keep the cup holder from sliding when you stop and go? I just keep it shut now.. the plastic under the cup drawer partially catches but hit the brakes with the retarder and it shuts..

David....you put a smile on my face! First thing I did was route out the bottom of the cup holders so they would hold my new Yeti-like Walmart thermo cup. What a mess!! Then, I quickly discovered what you describe.....drawer goes in and out with gas pedal . So...the wheels start turning.....first I buy a small clamp.....no place to grab anything. Next will be some type of removable wooden stick(s) that I can somehow put across the drawer opening....kinda like the old wooden tennis racquet press??!! Or maybe not. Would like a place to set my snack of the day in the drawer opening.....so maybe some type of hold it open tray??? Or maybe not

There is a plastic piece under it. Wonder if it wears out? I have bent it several times but it eventually starts sliding again .. glad I could help 🤪

Jeff, the generator auto start controller is inside that compartment, under the false floor. Like others have said, should be a magnetic push to open, push to close latch.

Try removing the drawer to get access to the cabinet underneath.

I have rebuilt the latch on the drawer several times, I think replacing the plastic latch parts.

Rich, as soon as we get home, this afternoon, we will try that. I'm sure somehow we will get it done. Thanks everyone for your suggestions, your the best.

Jeff, ...no longer about the cabinet door but the drawer, right?

IF the drawer, and IF it latches like mine...an 01.....i reported one time ago about repair I had to make.  No idea where that lost might be but simply put, there is on mine a nylon tab about 1.5 inch square that i cut to the form of the old tab that had worn out.

There is a metal rod that runs the length of the center of the drawer....on mine it visible looking under the bottom of the drawer.  I push up on the bar to open and close the drawer.  It has two  notches as i recall  that hook into the nylon or plasic tab for open or closed positions.  The tab had worn such that the notch could no longer hold.

If you think this your issue give me a pm and phone number if we need talk more.  requires removing drawer, etc.  i got the nylon tab material from Flanagan at FOT, some scrap he had, and i could run by and see if he has any more, mail to you.

I also found though a similar material of same thickness in one of wife's food cutting boards, tried to sell her that she would barely miss a little square cut out of one corner 😂.  That led me to Flanagan.

Ha, this made me laugh! When we purchased our '92 GV the previous owner proudly showed us the safe in the floor near the passenger seat, then admitted she didn't have the combination and couldn't remember what her recently deceased husband might have kept in there. She speculated it might have cash or a handgun, or both, but whatever it was we could have it.

So we contacted Foretravel and got the combination based on our coach number, and excitedly opened the safe. Only to find it empty.  :D
