Title: AC filter cleaning.
Post by: Mike Leary (RIP) on May 08, 2018, 05:28:58 pm
Our stern AC is working it's heart out in this heat, we start it around 10:00 am to cool the coach before the HEAT really comes on. I have gotten into checking the two slide-out screens on our Carrier every couple of days, clean them with a gentle old toothbrush. Amazing how much dust is in them! How often do the rest of you clean the filters?

Depends on dust, pets, etc.  The good news is that they are pulling junk out of the air you breath.

No wonder, with the winds we get down here, that sneezing is a normal part of life! The payback is the amazing blooms of the cactus!

We just wash ours.  Have you looked at the coils on the roof unit both on the out side and in?

I believe that it is Simple Green EXTREME that is aluminum-friendly.  It was developed for degreasing aluminum aircraft.

But, for cleaning A/C condenser and particularly the evaporator, I use an evaporator cleaner from any box store.

And, yes, the evaporator coils need to be cleaned annually as well.  The filters are NOT that effective.

No, I have not looked at the insides, top/bottom, but I'm not going up there in this heat! Will do, though, thanks, all, for the great (as usual) insights !  b^.^d

Mike,

That is an EARLY IN THE MORNING job.  But, well worth it to have a clean evaporator.

And, the evaporator on yours is much easier to access than on most other brands.  Be sure to seal off the opening into the coach with plastic or large towel so you don't get water into the coach when washing the evaporator.

Using a shop vac to suck up the rinse water works well.
