Title: Left hand studs?
Post by: folivier on June 01, 2018, 08:11:49 am
Getting tires soon on my 1999 36' U320 and want to make sure I don't have the same problem I had years ago with broken studs.
So does my 1999 have any left hand studs?  Or are they all right hand studs?

Your '99 should have "hub centered" wheels thus all standard (right hand) threads. You should have lug nuts that have what looks like washers made on them where it comes in contact with the wheel.

"Budd" wheels are stud centered and will have left hand threads on one side. The lug nuts on these will be tapered where the nut comes in contact with the wheel.

Thanks Mike!  I'll verify when I get back to the coach next week.

Mike is correct. Our '89 has Budd wheels. Right hand studs on the passenger side and Left hand on the driver's side. Stud centered.

And Budd wheels have an "L" or "R" embossed in to the end of wheel stud.  It's guy on the end of the big impact wrench that breaks the stud when trying to loosen in the wrong direction.
