Title: HWH oil reservoir location?
Post by: Mike Leary (RIP) on June 12, 2018, 01:58:08 pm
I think I've got a leak in one of my kick-down jacks. Anyone know the location of the breather/filler cap? Can't see anything from up above, but, then again, I'm not sure what the pump/manifold assembly looks like!

In the front to the drivers side of the air conditioner radiator and down low. Maybe. My '87 was.
It's a sump and it takes ATF. At least mine did.

Thanks, Twig & John. I'll take a look see. From the pics, it looks like a 'underneath'  job, which lets me out because of my back problem.  :'(

Locate it by looking through the front grills. I may be wrong, but I remember it on the PASSENGER'S SIDE.

Remove the couple of screws holding the front grill in-- phillips head as I recall.

That way you don't have to be a contortionist to check the fluid level (with all jacks stowed).

Thanks, Brett. Would have been nice if FT had installed gas keepers for the two front fold-up hoods.  :headwall:

More easy, as Brett said, to go through the grills.  On my 225, tank is on driver's side.

Ya, been a long time since I accessed it-- you could be correct.  Very easy to verify by just looking through the grills.

One thing is for sure.
ONE of us is right!

What's that great song line?...."The winner gets nothing and the loser gets all that remains."  So far, I'm discovering stuff I had not even noticed, but, from a view through the nose inspection doors, I SEE NOTHING related to my jacks.  Pic one is on the drive side, a pump, for what? Pic two is a bowl, for what? I don't know how I could see more by taking the grills off.  :headwall: This is where I wish I had a slab and a creeper, or (dream on) , a pit!

I do see (sorta), from above, a tank directly below the dash air radiator, does not look like I can get to it by pulling either grill.  :-\

#4472 is indeed a pump.  Dont know for what, but I'll bet its for pumping stuff from one place to another.
#4473 looks to be an accumulator (?) for cab A/C.
#4475  MAY be what you are looking for.  If so, it'll have a dip stick on the top.

Even if I loose, I'll still win, 'cause I'd get to  sit down with Brett!
P.S.  Cant see it from inspection doors, Ibelieve.

True 'dat! I believe Brett is like the rest of us nutcases, in that, he'll wake up in the middle of the night, also wake up Dianne, and say, "By jove, I remember where that hydraulic reservoir is!"  b^.^d

In our 91 GV, the reservoir is in the square frame looking metal device that is about 3 in sq. and located down low on the middle to driver's side.  The fill plug is on the top on the outside (driver's side).  The vacuum pump for the heater and AC controls is just above and to the outside of the HWH reservoir.  I am able to get to the HWH reservoir from the top hatch by standing on a stool.  I don't think I can get to mine thru the front as that is where the AC radiator is.  Mostly heater and AC control stuff in that area also and the bowl looking thing may be a part of that stuff.  Have a great day  ----  Fritz

Mike,
Be inspired to find your tank:

Rol l the bus up onto a pair of 2X12s and slide under the nose. The tank is just behind the bumper on mine and can be filled with a long hose from the grille hole or  a small funnel and qt jugs at the tank itself.  I use a zip tie for the dip stick but you really cant overfill it with the  jacks  stowed.  FWIW many modern hydrostatic mowers use Mobil one for the hydraulic oil. AS do I after i rebuilt the pump rotors.

The accumulator is for your dash air, the pump is a vacuum pump for actuating your dash air selection of "floor, mid, defrost" flow direction.

Picture 1 is your vacuum pump that "powers" the dash HVAC system.

Picture 2 is you dash A/C dryer.

Look straight into the grills from the front just above the bumper.  You should see the HWH reservoir, pump and hoses to the jacks.

Update: From my mini ladder & flashlight, I can see some unit that says "top" on it, I can't read the other writing. So, it looks like the jacks will be retracted,  driver's side grill comes off  after I get some 'Dextron'  I do have a small transfer pump, which looks like the only way to add. Any suggestions?  ^.^d    News at eleven. PS, it's odd, but we've always had trouble closing the big door. With the coach sitting a little low on the driver's side, the door closes as advertised: hmm.

Small funnel and Dexron after removing the grill. Remove the dipstick to add fluid.  If down much, find leak-- it is a sealed system and level should not change.

Might post a picture with the grill out for others to see.
