I am wanting to replace the water filter shut off valve on a C8.3 Cummins with Cummins updated metal one; and would like any directions on how to proceed. The plastic one was broken when I purchased the coach and makes changing water filters every 6000 miles a pain.
Ours has not broken, but with the fragility of the plastic coolant filter rotating shutoff, we also purchased the Cummins metal part. I could never get the old part lifted out, as something (top screw is out) keeps it part way in. Maybe a metal burr? I figured that if it broke, we would be in bigger trouble, so we leave it alone, with plastic in engine and metal in spare parts box.
We now always change coolant filter without rotating the shutoff, and NO coolant flows out, so in our case leaving it alone, keeping it open causes no problem, and we find the shut off not necessary.
