Title: Black water at the kitchen sink
Post by: Fiddler on June 25, 2018, 08:00:35 pm
Well a new one on me.  This stuff seems to be endless;  I think sometimes these motorhome's develop a life of their own demanding  constant attention.  Went to the coach to pick up some tools.  Turned on the kitchen sink cold water,  pump on, and black water came out of the spigot for a few seconds;  then switched faucet to hot position and all clear water.  Repeated; the cold side ran black again for a few seconds then cleared up; I then turned off the pump with the cold still r running,  as the flow lessened the water turned black again.  Repeated several times,  same result.  I'm guessing something in the pump but why only the cold side and always all clear on the hot side?  any ideas before I start digging into the water pump later this week?

If you have a water filter on the cold water line to the kitchen sink, check that.  Many water filters use activated carbon as a filtering agent and if the membrane that holds it in place is ruptured the carbon will flow thru the line.

Had the same problem when first we bought our 96. The drinking water spigot on the kitchen sink has an ADC Everpure activated carbon filter a QL2 or QL3. It must have been there a long time and was spilling its contents. Changed the filter and voila we we clear again!

Black water solved;  needed filter replacement;  thanks all.  Also reminded I'm due for sanitizing the fresh water tank;  will do.

While I was looking at my files, I found the PO replaced the head of the ADC QL-3 and the filter in 2012. He lists no explanation why the head had to be replaced, but the filter was LOOONG overdue!
