Title: US Hwy 40?
Post by: folivier on July 19, 2018, 11:39:00 am
We're leaving North Salt Lake, UT on Monday and plan to take US Hwy 40 east to Steamboat Springs, CO.
Has anybody driven that route?  We're towing the Tahoe and are used to mountain driving but never drove that route.  Or been to north Colorado above I-70.
Any suggestions on dry camping spots along that route?  Especially near Steamboat?
Thanks!

We dry camped in twin arrows casino parking lot.  Gigantic.  East of flagstaff.  Seems a large detour from salt lake to co?

Bob,

That's what I was thinking but he is talking bout Highway 40, not Interstate 40.

We did that route from Rocky Mountain NP to Steamboat Springs years ago in our 4107 bus. Lots of turns and twisty roads. We had a VW Rabbit behind us and no Jake either. It was not a big deal, just slow going. I do remember Rabbit Ears Pass coming down into Steamboat. Can't remember where we camped. I do remember clouds of mosquitoes after Steamboat when we got to Idaho.

There is a KOA at steam boat springs and some state park stops be for it.
