We have the Dometic model NDR 1282 refrigerator-- my question is can you remove the ice maker without having other problems arise. We don't use it and DW wants the extra room for freezer space.

In a word, YES. It can be removed or replaced with a new (for those who want an ice maker but who have one that is non-functional). one very easily.
Remove it and then block off the water line to the ice maker solenoid.

To expand, you should have 3 Philips head screws that are under the bottom of the ice maker unit. If you remove them this should let the unit slide away from the wall. You will have access to the electric plug now. After you unplug this the ice maker head will come out. You will need to install a "00" rubber plug in the water fill hose. Now go outside and unplug the wire on the water fill valve coil so you don't have any "O no moments" and I would turn off the supply valve under the kitchen sink. Doing this will keep you from having to worry about having this line break in the future under the floor causing a flood.

Interesting. Would anyone have instructions removing the ice maker from a Norcold N841?
Though I have not worked on a Norcold, most RV refrigerators use "off the shelf" house-type ice makers.

Regarding the Norcold N841, I found that most Norcolds use a Whirlpool ice maker and there are 2 screws holding it to the back of the freezer. I removed them and my ice maker won't budge but I believe that is because I have some ice built up in the freezer.
I will get it out, just not today. If anyone is interested, this ice maker has never been used and is for sale cheap. It will work on the following Norcolds:

Some older ice maker molds whether used or not have a coating that can flake off, not worth selling. Also may be damaged during removal.

Unplug the inverter outlet 110 plug behind fridge to remove power to icemaker.
The attached 'installation' manual makes it look like just unhooking from side clips, remove water line, unplug power and it is out.
Ice makers also have 120v heating element built into the bottom of the mold, where their electrical connections may impede removal. Access to back side of ice maker maybe needed.
Download any household fridge icemaker service manuals and you will likely find what yours looks like and see how to remove.
There is also a solenoid in the water line that is powered by the cam on the front. Remove front square cover to see timer gears.
